as for me I think the second time around, Yuri only remembers in his heart what happend. If he changes to manythings Alice might never fall in love with him. And he still would need the power of Amon to beat Rasputian. So I look at it as SH2 's good ending leads to SH1's good ending.

I like your take on Yuri's return and his changing his world to how HE wants it to be: as if taking Kato's words to heart and praying for the world that would make him happy - a life with Alice, Kato and Kawashima happy, his cousin and Ana - it all works. Who knew that Yuri would make such an altruistic prayer come true. (Ok, selfish too, but it all works out in the end.)
