I also really like Sophia. she is an original character, not like those average OC's one comes across in some stories. really well done.

I also like your James Hook. I haven't seen Peter Pan, but I am guessing we are talking Jason Isaacs here? ;-)

I wish I could say why I like your story and characters more eloquently, but at the moment I am too tired. My compliments however inadequately put are heartfelt though.

by the way...that is a really, really mean cliffie you are leaving us with here. Poor Sophia... and poor James. I don't think he will respond too favourably when he inevitably comes to the conclusion that either something bad has happened to his dear Sophia or that he has been abandoned...

Ah - I finally snuck away from writing linguistic conference abstracts long enough to read this delightful first chapter. I do like the character portraits that grow so easily in this opening - Ponyface Ned, Smee, the Captain, and, of course, Sophia. She seems quite the librarian sort, Sophia does, simply from physical descriptions, and her brusque acceptance of the "oh-dear-I'm lost-in-a-strange-place-with-a-pirate" situation has a very utilitarian feel to it.

I'm very curious where this is headed plot-wise, since we have a very good puzzle in Sophia's arrival, and I can only imagine how the Captain will try and use this puzzle to his advantage. And your writing style is so refreshing - unclogged with extraneous descriptors, full of easy-flowing dialogue! An absolute pleasure to read. I do hope you post more soon.

Pretty good. Sophia is just the sort of character to have hidden depth in a non-showy way, and Hook's manner is well done so far. So long as you've got enough events to drive the plot along, this is worth carrying on.
