No Make Girl 6/23/08 . chapter 1
I wrote the previous review, like, what, 3 years ago? Yeah, every now and then I come back and read this. It's only been a little while, relatively speaking since my last read, hardly 3 decades or 3 centuries, but I had forgotten I'd written that. Funny, I had forgotten those thoughts and feelings as well. Now I hardly think about some of those people whom, at the time, I had thought I loved with all my heart and could not imagine not thinking about or caring about every day of the year. They have been laid over by new memories, and those new memories too are fading. Some, with a bit of guilt, I wish would fade quickly and for good.

If memories are a part of our selves, the good thing about losing them is that you change. Certainly new memories would make you change too, from learning from mistakes or good decisions, but forgetting the old ones perhaps allows you to keep moving forward without the excess baggage that results from one trying to cling to things that are no longer part of the present. And strangely enough, to think about it, that sounds a little like what Deedlit was trying to say.

As always, this story always touches me deeply, saddens me and scares me. I hope it will continue to remain here on FFNet for many more years to come, and every so often I shall come back to read it, and perhaps think again.

I read this fic a long time ago, and it hit me pretty hard then. Now I've stumbled across again it hasn't lost it's power. In fact, its impact is stronger, maybe because my life has gone through a lot of changes recently. The way I read it, it's not just about "eternal love" for immortals... it takes the idea that memories are what makes up our identity, and rattles it around pretty disturbingly. After all, it's your experiences and memories that make you the person you are and dictate how you react to the present. To lose the most precious of memories over time means you lose bits of yourself, forever, and that's the scariest thing of all, I think.

Somewhere beyond Olympus, the gods are having a good laugh as one says to the other, "See, these are the exact same things they said and did twenty-five thousand years ago.", perhaps even wagering on the outcome as they compare "live" to "memorex".

Kind of a downer to consider that there likely were other Parns before "Parn", as well as after.

Excellently done.

This was great I hope you write another one about them!

Interesting... Quite... thought provoking. All in all, an enjoyable read- even simply for the image of Pirotes and Deedlit chatting together in a cafe about life, the universe, and everything... ]

i really enjoyed this story. the concept was fresh and well done, and very realistic. *grin* it makes sense...

plus, i think that Deedlit *would* forget Parn before Pirotessa would forget Ashram. just their differences...I always saw Pirotessa as more of a romantic than Deedlit. more impulsive, more entrenched in her emotions than Deedlit. not saying Deedlit doesnt feel emotions...she just chooses to deal with them in a different way.

anyways. i wrote you a novel for a review. .

very ic, very well written, and i enjoyed it very much indeed.

Badhbh Catha 4/20/02 . chapter 1
Both Deedlit and Pirotessa were believably in character, but with a distance from their personalities in RoLW that made sense with the time distance. I enjoyed this very much.
Lady Belegwen Lightningblade 2/1/02 . chapter 1
That's both sad and beautiful. However, I believe that the things that are important to us are the things we will always remember even if they are more distant in time. Time may cloud the memories, but I truly think that Deed might remember Parn, though she might not remember what she did this morning. Of course, we can't ever know, unless we're reborn as elves next life.

If nothing else, the setting of this story was very unexpected, but I think it

made it interesting.

Very creative piece. I like the non-idealistic view of imortality, looking at future Deed was quite the departure from the Elf we all know and love. The thought that she's forgotten Parn was quite chilling and I think hammered home the point of the pointlessness of life to the reader as much as Pirotess(a) forgetting all but Ashram's name was to her.

Excelent work, I hope you write some more on this page or at least send me where I can find more.
