I have to tell you, though, that I don't think Gil-galad could have been named for Eärendil's star: According to the Encyclopedia of Arda, Gil-galad was born several decades before Eärendil. [The E of A doesn't give a date for Eärentil sailing in Vingilot.]

A nice but sad little story. I especially liked Glorfindel's reply -- "You forget who I am." A nice little reference; good job!
