Verdot 4/21/05 . chapter 3This is well written, but I couldn't help but feel that certain things were a bit... contrived. Normally unemotional characters being very emotional... situations that seem to make sense but don't. I don't know there is something subtly *off* about the interaction.
Then again, I haven't been in this fandom for nearly as long... characterizations are still forming for me.
Your style is lovely though. I commend you on that.

Green Grace O'Malley 4/21/05 . chapter 3 Good gods. Well, I read the description that confronted me on the Pit of Voles menu, and I thought "ok, reasonable premise" but I launch in and was immediately confronted with the widespread and much-feared Out of Character Syndrome!
Fic I. Look, if you wish to accurately portray Integra and Anderson, they both need to be portrayed as hating each other. If you could give me one reason why the Protestant Virgin of Steel was in bed with the Catholic Vatican's Puppet, more power to you. But you haven't. You seem ever so fond of the phrasings along the lines of "he/she didn't know why..." and I'm sorry, but that doesn't cut it. The barriers barring this pairing are insurmountable.
I. Virgin of Steel. Enough said.
II. They want to kill each other. What could prompt this?
I. Integra is a cold character. This does not make her dull or boring, but it does mean that she's not going to succumb to gentle kisses from her archenemy. *If* Integra would have sex with anyone, it would involve power games and no tenderness. Ever.
Moving on. Integra wanted to be turned? Have you seen the series? Her relationship with Alucard vacillates between curt at best to ill-concealed distaste. She lives to destroy vampires. I have a terribly hard time believing that she would want to be bitten for any reason.
Also, angsty!Integra? Again, that's not something her character would do.
Anderson, however, he would be angsty in this situation. He just has pre-marital sex with a protestant! You can bet your ficwriting bum that he would be a bit more out of sorts with himself.
And then, I reach the end and se the implications of... an actual relationship? Come on! Where did the clinically insane priest and ice-cold nemesis go?
Fic II. I'm not even gonna touch this one.
Fic II. Again, Hans and regret? I don't think so. Let me browse through the fix to see if I can find a reason... oh, here! Hans doesn't know either. Well that makes it ok! *shot*. Also, as you yourself pointed out, Walter is steadfast, loyal, and dedicated. He also has death-strings. I profess that in this situation, he would kill himself before being turned. But that's an interpretation point, I suppose.
I will commend you on not simply referring to the characters by their hair color. And all three were Mary Sue free. Huzzah. But darling, for someone who characterizes themselves as a shining beacon against OOC fics, you've joined the masses of writers who just can't help it. |
