Winged Knight 2007-11-24 . chapter 11Interesting to see Ranma with a working set of teenage hormones for once.
In all seriousness though, I understand your reasoning and agree with you, as well as respect you for it. If you feel that your writing is taking you away from your family and loved ones then you made the right decision by stopping. If you felt that your writing was going against your personal beliefs and religious values, even though I myself am not a believer, then I understand and think you made the right choice. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you believe you have a problem, deal with it and ignore the naysayers. The fact they're complaining just shows they don't understand.
If, possibly, you ever feel that you have tackled this problem sufficiently and in the future think about writing again, please know I'll be here. I'll support any decision you make.
I wish you luck in all your endeavours and hope your future is bright. Good luck. |
Schwarzd354 2007-10-04 . chapter 11I'm sorry to see such a talented author leave the field, but I fully understand and support your reasons for doing so.
I have escapism and addiction issues as well, so I can understand how difficult they can be, as well as how they can comprimise other aspects of your life.
While I am not religious myself, I also support your moral conflict with your stories. Your wife made an excellent point about when your children read your stories. In all honesty, the high amounts of sexual content did at times make your stories difficult for me to read.
That being said, you are absolutly right that your family should come first. I'm sorry that so many people gave you grief for leaving. Those individuals are clearly only thinking about themselves. As much as I would love to see you continue to write, you have to do what is best for you and yours. I sincerely hope that one day you will return to the field, but that will be your decision and yours alone.
I'd like to close by thanking you for leaving your stories online. While I'm not certain how well the new authors will fill your shoes, I'm glad the originals are still online for me to reread at my leisure. And admittedly, I do look forward to seeing how the stories will end. If I may ask for one small favor, if you by any chance still have outlines for Ice Princess of Konoha, and Transcending Time, I'd like to ask for copies of them. I'd like to see how you were originally planning to end them. Please contact me at your earliest convience, my e-mail is and my IM screen name is Schwarzd354 |

Darkforce222 2007-09-27 . chapter 11I'm conflicted. On one hand I'm sad to see you leave, but on the other my joy at seeing CQoC write again is utterly transcendent.
A salute to you in either case. |
Anon 2007-09-27 . chapter 11 I have read CQoC work on here, the little she has on An Add (please write more), and the bit on MaxAdd (Definitly please write more). I think she's a great writer and a wonderful choice for this.
I wish her luck! |
deitarion/SSokolow 2007-09-27 . chapter 11Nothing could ease my mind more than this announcement. Calamity-Queen of Cordite is, without a doubt, one of the most organized and skilled authors on FFnet... not to mention holds a place on my favorites list. |
zmanjz 2007-09-27 . chapter 11I won't reiterate my prior "See you later", other than to wish you best of luck but...
Calamity-Queen of Cordite? Excellent Choice. I've read one of her stories before, and she does a solid job. Easily in the top 20 percent of Fan Fiction Writers. Her work in her Hotaru/Ranma story displayed a good knowledge base from both universes. (Though I seem to be having trouble locating that story... musta been a media miner or adultfanfiction story.)
Other than that, I wish you best of luck...
May you live an interesting life.

Silvermane 2007-09-27 . chapter 11 Well, first off, let me say that I have very much enjoyed your work, and that I am sorry that circumstances have brought you to this point. I hope that at some point you may be able to return to writing. There is far too much schlock posing as fanfiction nowadays, and it's always a shame to loose one of the better writers to real life.
That being said, I do have to express my reservations about your choice of author to take over this fic for you. Now, I'm not saying that Calamity-Queen of Cordite is a bad author. I've read her Ranma/Evangelion crossover "The Wild Horse Thesis", and I did like it for the most part. But there were certain things that kept it "good" instead of "great", at least as far as my POV went. Specifically, with the "period lock" and how quickly Ranma got comfortable with his cursed form sexually. Yes, I know that C-QoC specifically stated at the start of that fic that she was aiming for polygamous lesbian themes and Ranma accepting his cursed form, and I have little issue with that, as long as it's done in a logical consistant manner, and not just him deciding one day to "go girl". However, in the aforementioned fic, I feel she showed insufficient development on that particular angst-worthy point. Most of the development was over his fear of intamacy (a related issue, true), and very little was given to Mr Man Amongst Men deciding that having sex as a girl was okay. And as far as the "period lock" is concerned, well I found it to be a VERY dubious mcguffin. While there is no proof one way or the other in the original that Ranma has periods, if they caused him to be locked in cursed form for a days at a time, that would have been shown. Sorry, just couldn't buy it.
The reason I bring up these points is that at the beginning of Transcending Time, Ranma is shown to be very much like his canon self, a Ranma that C-QoC simply doesn't use in her stories. In fact, the very first chapter specifically points out "First and foremost was the fact that he was currently a she; not unusual given his curse, but an oddity nonetheless since it wasn’t raining and Ranma tended to change back as quickly as possible." Please note that "As quickly as possible" bit. Transcending Time is a Canon Continuation Crossover, not an Alternate Universe, and I'm not sure that C-QoC can write such a story without her apparent personal bias for Ranma lesbianism creeping in. Of her 4 stories on FFN, one apparently has a permanently locked Ranma (Dark Huntress Reiko), another an adult Ranma living as a woman (Dragon Lady of Macross) and the previously mentioned "Wild Horse Thesis". Only Full Ranma Panic appears to not have any focus on a feminized Ranma.
Again, I'm NOT saying that C-QoC is a bad writer, I did enjoy "Wild Horse Thesis". I just don't want to see the beutiful love story that is "Transcending Time" take a 90 degree turn into "Fuku-fic" territory. You spent 9 chapters having Ranma start to grow from boy to man, and establish Setsuna as a lonely devoted widow pining for her husband. Having Ranma start to develop a feminine side simply wouldn't make any logical sense for this story. |
Jetflash 2007-09-27 . chapter 11OH. MY. GOD! I do not know if you could have chosen a better author (well, maybe Ozzallos, but he needs to finish his own stuff before he works on some else's). I was worried that this wouldn't get finished, as there are a few Ranma/Setsuna pairings out there, but so few of them get completed. As I said before, good luck in all of your further ventures, and thank you for the work you've put in here. |
Asgeras 2007-09-27 . chapter 11Good choice. Calamity is a very good fic author. I would still prefer it to be written by you, but can understand your reasoning and approve of most of your choices ^^
Good luck JohnnyG. |
Dumbledork 2007-09-27 . chapter 11Great news. Calamity is the perfect choice for this kind of fic. I love all of her works. |
Cyberbeta 2007-09-27 . chapter 11 Thank you for not letting your stories die JohnnyG. Transcending Time & Aijou & Aitou are two of the best Ranmas Fanfics I have read. It it nice to know they will continue even though you have left. |
Big Daddy Cool 2007-09-24 . chapter 10well its all good that your geting rid of your obsession, but if your going to do self improvement, one of the most important thing is to finish what you have started. Even alchol addiction groups tell addicts in their twlve step program to go back (its the 9th step by the way) and apologize who they have hurt, in other words, do not leave things hanging, a major step for recovery. However, that what you are not doing...I will tell you what you need to do
1) do not read nay further fanfiction
2) pick one of stories and just concentrate finishing it off, one by one, not all same time
3) avoid watching anime, cook with your wife, etc
hopefuylly you will take my advice...

Shudder 2007-09-20 . chapter 10Completely understandable reasons for leaving. However, I've always held the opinion that nothing is worse than a story that goes unfinished. While I'm not going to ask you to take the time to finish your stories, I would like to encourage you to leave them open for someone else to possibly finish. Or something along those lines.
Just a suggestion, and good luck in kicking the addiction. |
AMWOOD co 2007-09-19 . chapter 10Good for you. I've had a friend who quit a game that my other friends and I enjoy a great deal because he felt that he was investing too much time into it.
I hold this that there are certain things that are universally right and wrong and the grey areas are things that one person can do innocently while others must avoid lest it become something more serious. For seeing this I congradulate you.
May you enjoy your time with your family and God bless you.
