I had carpal tunnel release surgery (as well as deQuervain's - it's for the thumbs specifically) in both hands, and the surgery for that took about 4 hours each hand. And I still have problems with how long I can write and type before stiffness and tendonitis sets in. She is so beyond lucky that she'll have the use of her hand. Excellent ficlette.
