Doesn't Matter
2009-04-29 . chapter 9
I just found this recently and read it all in one sitting and I love it -- absolutely love it. Which is why I'm sad that it hasn't been updated in almost 4 years... just when it was getting to the good parts too (not that all of it hasn't been fantastic -- I just have a penchant for younger Obi-Wan). Now I'll never know how everything developed, unless you would be so kind as to change that :P

Fantastic! This is so well written. The transition between scenes and past and present are very well done.

I thought I was too tired to review, but then you had to go and break my heart with chapter nine. That simple, powerful image of them dancing at the end of things, filled with such pain and regret, and yet still loving one another... I've still got goosebumps.

I was sort of wavering on the edge of Sabe/Obi-Wan shippiness and you just converted me utterly. Damn you. I like the way you've set it up as a tragic, doomed kind of love because that's exactly what it would be. I can see no other way for it to work out. Obi-Wan will always be a Jedi, and Sabe (your version of her at least) will always have her drive to fight the good fight. This is my favourite kind of doomed romance. There's no Romeo&Juliet-esque urge to destroy themselves for that love. They both have the courage to walk away, which is probably ultimately much harder and much more painful. That's why I'll always prefer Sabe/Obiwan over Anakin/Padme any day.

This is also a very human story. I love the way you fill in the scenes between Obi-Wan and the Handmaidens. In the movie, they just seem to stand around and let the jedi tell them what to do. But you've created an excellent sense of what it must be like for them; the frustration of not knowing what was going on. It was very amusing - and very cool - to see Obi-Wan chastised by Sabe. And that moment where they almost end up attacking one another - it doesn't matter how many times it's been done before, it still works.

I think I had more to say, but I really need to get to bed. Anyway, beautiful story and I hope you update sometime.

I thought the ending was very sweet, very cool. And if this indeed is the ending, it's kind of cool to keep it open-ended. But I would like to know more about the back story :-D

Very, very good story. Nice to see a more complex and original Sobiwan story than the average on I like how present and past mix. I'm still waiting for some kind of closure here, so I hope that it is not finished yet. I want to know the rest of the story between those two. And I think you made Sabe/Obi-Wan very believable :) And it certainly isn't boring, au contraire, makes me read every word, no skipping ;) really.

This was beautiful :) I think that the dance at the end was sweet, yet slightly out of place. Which is cool, because quirky=the new not quirky man... Anyway, good, solid writing!

I enjoyed this piece and I liked how you integrated Sabé into the events of Episode I and beyond. Obi-Wan was quite sincere if not a bit too distant for my taste, but I understand that it was more from Sabé's POV.

The end was disappointing and seemed out of place. The story was building and building to a climax of angst only to be let down with a disconcerting and random request for a dance. It also left me wondering where Obi-Wan learned the lyrics for a Nabooan lullaby...

Good chapter!

At least, Sabé has come to terms that she doesn't really hate Obi-wan (Ben). However, how long it will be until the feelings change again and she might think otherwise?

Anyway, looking forward to more. Until then.

I just watched the first part of EP I. It is so good. I am also sitting here in my Jedi cloak with my purple lightsaber. I now have a lightsaber routine I do with my brother. I also have a totally cool 'thing' that I do to take of my coak, like the Jedi do when they start to fight. Or at least, Mace Windu does that in EP II during the Execution scene. Of course, you already knew that.

UPDATE!
