Touching, concise, beautifully written story. I particularly like Abbey's reaction to Jed's weakened grip and Jed's whispered response. It is natural to pray for a quick, painless death, typically falling asleep and not waking up. For this reason, I don't think Jed would have wished for a stroke - implies disability/paralysis/inability to speak, etc. Wonderfully done. I'm always looking for more Jed-centric stories. Thanks.
