I enjoyed this - I think you sum it up well at the end. When well done (as your writing is), I think I could see something about Snape and Lupin watching paint dry, and still enjoy it, the two of them work so well together.

On Lupin's not thinking about Sirius - I've always felt a lot of denial there. The inability to reconcile what Sirius was supposed to be and have done as a Death Eater, with the Sirius that Lupin knew growing up and sharing a room with for 7 years, and three or four years after - someone who was to all intents and purposes his brother. The logical mind knows these facts must be true, but the heart cannot accept it, therefore, we don't think about it. (And, of course, his heart was right all along.)

A wonderfully done piece. I love how you have Remus and Severus acting towards each other, so in character, for the both of them. The last line, too. Totally Severus. :)

I don't agree that Remus always proves everyone's worries unfounded in the end because in PoA he actually proved that Snape was right from the start. I don't know why just about nobody gets that Remus was an accomplice before the fact to every "crime" that Sirius committed that year from vandalism to assault to attempted manslaughter/reckless endangerment. (Bashing the head of an unconscious man against the ceiling greatly increases the risk of permanent injury or death. Remus made no attempt to stop that.) Believing Sirius to be a mass-murdering traitor out to kill Harry, he yet deliberately withheld information that would have kept him out of Hogwarts, information that he had a double responsibility as both teacher and citizen to disclose.

I'm also not sure that Snape felt as if he'd come out on top after the Potters' death. True three of his childhood tormentors were dead and he'd escaped Azkaban but he'd had to lose his own friends, he was still treated with suspicion and dislike and he was stuck in a job he probably hated.

I thought so too, I mean, nobody is all evil an good, that's way to simple, we are all very complex beings, and this makes our feelings not all good and not all bad. Severus definetly has a good side, it's just hidden... Very good! I applaud you on your writing, I imagined it like this.

Beautiful story. It wasn't bad that Sirius and Lucius were there to 'hover above the text like ghosts,' as you put it. They helped give it a certain atmosphere, which fits perfectly with the title.
Your characters are life like. I could truly see Remus asking Severus about how he survived. 'Twilight' is better than the average fanfiction. Congragulations.
