No judge would actually do that expressly against a sixteen year old's wishes but it does make the story better. What I am surprised about is that no one has thought to ask who inherited the money. Also, there was one other way for Julie not to have to go with her mother, she could have gotten married. After that she is an adult. She could have gotten an annulment in a couple of years when she turned eighteen. Now she needs to document everything that happens about how she is treated and where they send her. For instance, sending her to boarding school would violate the spirit of the custody award.
