 Ducky'sgirl4ever 2009-10-02 . chapter 1A great story. Very good. |
brightandsunny 2009-03-10 . chapter 1Thank you for this lovely story=), I enjoyed it very much. I first started reading Anne of Green Gables when I was eight, which was ten years ago, and today I still love it as much as I did then. Rilla of Ingleside, a haunting tale of sorrow and joy echoes strongly in my memories. I always wished for a completely happy ending, but I think Walter's death sort of immortalized the war for me, though it happened so long ago. ( actually, it's nearly been a century!) I feel so badly for the people of Rilla's generation, seeing their friends go off to war, and then to see the same fate occur to their children ( WWII). I really wished Montgomery had written a story on Anne's family during WWII, but I think Montgomery passed away herself before the war ended. I'd love to see you write a story about Rilla's family during WWII. Thank you for this tale, I think it gave me closure to Rilla's and more importantly Una's side of the story. =) |
A Forgotten One. 2009-02-11 . chapter 1Walter didn't call Rilla Spider but the other boys taunted her terribly. Oh Jem, you naughty boy! Poor Rilla...:)
What a lovely story!Simply delightful. I'm sure Una was loved and loved her nieces and nephews. |
una_meredith 2008-11-23 . chapter 1 I strongly support your view about Walter miracuously coming back from the dead. The problem is that we just can't accept the fact that war left many young women, like Una, broken hearted. We can only use our own imaginations after ROI. |
piccolabimba 2007-12-13 . chapter 1Wonderful story. It shows life after ROI and how the story of those who died in those wars is still told to every generation. Thank you for this story (I even hesitate to call it a 'fanfic' since it could stand with LM's other short stories. |
n/a 2005-08-02 . chapter 1 Very well written. Everyone is in character, and the story is one of the most plausible post Rilla of Ingleside tales I have seen. You also kept things in a proper historical context, props to you.
*goes into fangirl mode* Like OMG I LUVE this story and WRITE MORE PLZ!
*snaps back* Seriously...even if this is a standalone, I'd love to see more stories from you. |
Gufa 2005-06-28 . chapter 1 This is very good, you know. I appreciate your premise - much as I'd like for Walter to "come back", I'm sure that that's not what LMM intended.
I like the woman you've made Una become - still sad and wistful, but strong as well. She hasn't let her life pass her by, and if it feels a bit empty...she's able to take that. And she's always loved helping others. I'd love to have an aunt like her. And I like your Rilla and her family too. (Although it's Jem who names his son Walter, not Rilla, but you wouldn't know that of you haven't read 'Road to Yesterday').
"This home and family are my part of making the better world those soldiers died for." :-)
I know you say you mean this as a standalone piece, and I think you're right, it doesn't need anything more. All the same, I hope you're planning to write more, whether still focusing on Una or on the rest of the family. I'd definitely like to see more of your work.
Cheers,
Gufa |
 Emily-in-the-glass 2005-06-25 . chapter 1you write well.
you don't imitate LMM, or write with poetic flowery flights, but your writing is clear and succinct.
i admire the subtleties of your plot. your limited descriptions and how you paint the setting "work" - there's just enough narration to shed light on what is happenning when the dialogue/action takes place. it's a very perfect balance.
i have no problem imagining and believing your story; every character is "in character."
i think your title can be a little more intrinsic; but i'm not very good at coming up with titles myself, and maybe your simple title is ths best way to go.
really, i just want to say "i love your story." and i hope you will grace us with other short pieces of your creation. :) |
ruby gillis 2005-06-24 . chapter 1I really like what you've done for Una here. I've written many LMM fanfics, and although one does center around Una (The Way of the World) I couldn't bring myself to bring him back. I always feel that if LMM had wanted him back, she wouldn't have killed him off. However, I do enjoy some of the Walter comes back stories...like adriennelane's Once of Ingleside.
Good work. Will you continue? |
Dylan Lee Arwood 2005-06-23 . chapter 1I like it so far, please update soon. I can see there's potential here. |
Ciryl 2005-06-22 . chapter 1This is a pretty good start. I like that Una is moving on with her life and doing things. I never really thought she would sit around and mop forever. I do hope that she will be able to find some real love though, even if it cant be with dead Walter. I hope that you will put up a family tree too, I know that it can be a little tedious but it will us-the readers- to keep things straight. thanks and update soon! |
