Y2535 2009-06-11 . chapter 18Thank you for these stories. I just finished reading the History Lessons series, and I really enjoyed them. You made me laugh, and you made me cry.
You handled the story of Elrond very well. I found the characters extremely believable and complex. Your interpretations did not always match how I saw them, but they have definately influenced how I look at them. I also enjoyed how the characters interacted with one another. I guess I had never truly considered Glorfindel's role as protector, or Erestor as the behind the scenes elf who keeps everything running smoothly.
The depth of research and the detail you put into your work is amazing. What a great way to review the history of Middle-Earth! The author's notes at the end were a nice touch, and showed the strong canon base you built on. Again, the dedication to Tolkien's work and vision is amazing, and frankly, mind boggling.
I will definately be reading some of your other stories over the coming weeks. Thank you again for all your hard work. Definately some of the best fanfiction I've read. |
 Laurenke1 2007-06-05 . chapter 2Hey
Wil you do a story about Elladan and Elrohir's years in Middle Earth?

WendWriter 2007-05-25 . chapter 2I love the way you handled the secrecy issue, and the life you gave Gilraen as a member of Elrond's household. The relationships are beautifully described and the different group names for the dwarves - "flock," "gaggle" and "swarm" made me laugh out loud. |
 WendWriter 2007-05-25 . chapter 1Hello Nilmandra,
What an excellent chapter! I love the way you draw Aragorn - a real boy! He wets the bed, he gets into mischief, he's curious - a real boy! I love the way you show the love of the family, and the way you deal with the fact that it's really unfair to rob the child of the knowledge of his family - while pointing out that they have to do it to keep him alive. You are my favourite writer here - please don't stop posting stories on this site. |
 Laurenke1 2007-05-14 . chapter 4Hey
Are you going to do a story about Elladan and Elrohir and what they did in Middle Earth before they sailed?
I would like to see that.

Anita Gleason 2007-04-02 . chapter 7 I found one of your stories by accident here, as I only visit occasionally. I think the first one was with the twins on a mission in Cardolan. I was so impressed with the story and the characterizations that I started reading all of the history lessons stories as well. All I can say is that you are a wonderful writer. As a teacher, an avid reader, and a rabid Tolkien fan,I've enjoyed reading your stories so much! This last chapter made me cry (hard to do), and all I could think of was how much pain I would be in if I were separated from my spouse or children, like you've written Elrond. You have made some of my favorite characters sparkle anew and breathed life into minor characters about whom I've only wondered. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. I will be checking the website as well. I hope the level of talent there is at least the level that you've shown here. Fanfiction is a good site for what it's worth, but you have to sift through a lot of dirt to find gems such as your stories. Thank you again for sharing them, and I hope you keep writing! |
Kalisona 2007-03-02 . chapter 18Oh! *sobs* This was so beautiful! I started to cry, for real at the end of this, and only one book has ever made me do so...Both this and HL2 were amazing, fantastic, beautiful! I can't describe how great they are!
Thank you so much for writing these! They are true gems of fanfiction, and you are a very talented author! Thank you!

Lilandriel 2007-01-23 . chapter 18 I have just spent the last week or so re-reading the Histories Trilogy, and I think I've actually enjoyed it even more this time than I did the first time! I've read things this time that I'd missed on my first reading, and I think that there are things I understand better now.
Once again, I've been moved to both laughter and tears (quite often in the same sentence!) sorrow and joy, anger and delight; it's been such an pleasure to experience it all again, more intense, I think, because I've often known what lay ahead for the characters.
You know, I do believe I have you to thank for me developing an interest in Elronds' early life, and the happenings of the previous Ages, who he was and what happened to make him who he became, and all those who've crossed his path along the way and/or been instrumental in his upbringing. I'd never really given much thought to his ancestors, to Melian and hidden Gondolin, Doriath (and of course Celeborn), the Awakening, the coming of Melkor, the Lamps, the Trees, the birth of the Sun, the Changing of the world.. .. You opened up a whole new world for me, one that I have thoroughly enjoyed, and do still enjoy exploring.
So thank-you, Nilmandra.
I cannot begin to imagine how much time and effort you've invested in this journey, the depth and breadth of research you must have done, and I am so grateful you've shared your gift with us.
Would you mind awfully if I put a link to your user page on mine, so that others can find the stories and hopefully enjoy them as much as I have?
I saw your footnote at the end of the last chapter: I would love to see another tale of life after, in Aman, or in Middle-Earth with his children and the beginnings of the Fourth Age.
Brightly, beautifully Woven. Thank-you again for a wonderful, if sometimes bittersweet, journey.

Lilandriel 2006-10-05 . chapter 18OMG!! i so cannot believe this is finished! :(
*sniff*
fantastic! brilliant finale!
thank you so much for such an incrediable story. i have loved reading the Histories; they've had me enthralled from the beginning. all the emotion and thought you bring to the tales, the sheer depth of each character and each individuals' history, the amount of reasearch u must have done, the planning and the weavings of past and present.. just wow.
i really don't have the words to express exactly how i feel; i really wish i did. totally excellent tales. *sighs* my only disappointment is that it's now over!!

childofthekng 2006-09-27 . chapter 18wonderful it is for Elrond to find his much deserved peace.
well done! |
whYFeL 2006-09-26 . chapter 18Thank you for sharing such intimate and deep knowledge of ME with us mere mortals. Again, I shed tears at the last parting of Elrond and Arwen, and of his first reunions. Words simply fail me right now, but thank you. |
Elfinabottle 2006-09-25 . chapter 18Wow. What a perfect ending to the story. I am very much looking forward to the sequel. |
Apsenniel 2006-09-25 . chapter 18I like very much how you went full circle from chapter 1, with Aragorn in a "boneless" sleep, and Elrond dreaming of Celebrian and Valinor...to Elrond himself in a "boneless" sleep and finally back in Celebrian's arms. Such a lovely ending to a wonderful story. |
