What I think you're lacking is some sort of minor sidekick character to provide some comic relief from the drama as it unfolds. Considering this IS StartCraft, a zergling or something similar would seem to be a good choice. The possibilities for humor for this diminutive yet endearing critter are endless in terms of the various shenanigans and capers it might undertake. Naming it something like Jerry. . . or Larry would work exceedingly well. IMHO, unless you remedy this deficiency in future stories, your work will not rise above the level of the mediocre.
