I hope you will post some new chapters soon! Saladin's gift is mentionned in the last chapter of "The Barley Field Lady", about pearls, diamonds and other gems being hidden in Balian's saddlebags. Saladin wanted to express his gratitude towards his sister's champion but he had to do it discreetly, since some of his men are resenting Balian's presence among them. He also wanted to give our hero a chance to leave the Holy Land before war begins, and to return in France a rich man, even if deep down Saladin knows Balian won't abandon the people of Jerusalem to their fate.
