I totally agree with duj. We have to remember that Dumbledore is not stupid. He trusted Snape for a resson, on not just Snape say he felt bad, I believe that he trusted Snape enough to kill him. When we heard Dumbledore say "Please Severus" is was not 'please Severus, spare my life' because Dumbledore is not one to beg. I think that he was saying 'Please Severus, complete your Vow, continue your mission, keep that boys safe'. By boys I ment Harry and Draco, 'cuz Dumbledore would have wanted all his students safe. That's just my thoughts

Interesting theory and well-presented. However I have an alternative view.

In my opinion he was bluffing about the "full knowledge" hoping to fill in the gaps in what Voldemort had told him. The Vow gave him an excuse to pester Draco with questions but unfortunately Draco held fast and refused to share so he never found out the full extent of his plans. It was a risk to his own life (he never intended to fulfil it) but he was prepared to die so he thought it was worth it.

The argument Hagrid overheard was when Dumbledore insisted that Snape had to fulfil the Vow and kill him if it became necessary. BTW, note the parallel to Harry having to promise to follow orders no matter what and therefore having to force-feed Dumbledore poison. (I suspect it was a fatal irreversible and excruciating kind too; seems more like Voldemort than a weak/reversible one. After all, he could just take along a minion or prisoner for the poison-drinking part, couldn't he?)

So Snape's in the Tower where he's outnumbered by Death Eaters and a werewolf (who'd prefer to slip off and tear out the throats of as many children as he can reach), with Draco having second thoughts, Dumbledore almost paralysed and Harry completely paralysed. What are his options? Is there any way he can save Dumbledore without endangering Harry, their only hope for killing Voldemort? (Not to mention Draco, the other students and his position as spy/saboteur.)

And you think Dumbledore's begging him NOT to kill him?

Thank you for still believing in Snape. So many have abandoned him after reading HBP. I know there is good in him yet.
