Ranma has to be one of the few instances where the fanfiction is far better then the original story. Ranma .5 had such potential, but instead of diving into the deeper issues they turned it into an over the top romantic comedy.

You capture these deeper issues, too many people just automatically turn ranma into a girl (see fukufics) or into an overpowered caricature of masculinity, his curse tossed away with the storke of a key.

I really like this piece because its after the conforntation between insecurity and confidence, after the pressures of society, when he wonders if, curse asside, acceptance into society, into married life, is worth the sacrifice of his skill, of his power. This regret, this midlife crisis is really interesting and I think you could have really take it somewhere interesting.

It could have probably been an amazing novel, but as a short story it is only good, interesting, but not great. Regardless good job, just getting good is hard enough.

I like this. It's different from most Ranma fics out there.

It seems like ages ago that I first read this story, yet it remains one of my favorites. A compact, yet powerful character study. Bravo!
