This is an... interesting article. I have to admit, I enjoyed reading it, not that I thought it overly amusing. It was humorous in its own sarcastic, sadistic way.

In my opinion any female character can, and probably has been, portrayed as a Mary Sue, and that the reading world is dependent on these characters. This is where I must also say, I am not all together opposed to them.

What one must consider is that Mary Sues are in fact a type of book in themselves, and that people enjoy reading them. (Some people anyway.) Take the Twilight series for example (a series I have very little time with, and am using because of its eminence in the literature reading community) Bella is in fact a Mary Sue, and yet this is a bestselling book. Yes, they are read mainly by teenage girls (with exceptions) but does Bella being a Mary Sue slow them down? No. The fact remains that although Mary Sues are inconsequential, and sometimes offensive, people read them.

I’m not disagreeing with the fact that there are an appalling number of them out there, and that there are way too many teenage girls (and boys are guilty of it too) that couldn’t come up with something original even if their Abercrombie & Fitch clothes depended on it. But Mary Sues can be done well, even the ones described in your expose.

I look forward to reading your other work, and seeing if you have any actual fanfiction posted, how do you deal with the constant threat of the dreaded Mary Sue popping into your storylines? Personally, as we are all guilty of being hypocritical (especially if you’re outspoken about anything) I figure it would be wise to not post your own fanfiction, because it would, undoubtedly, be picked apart. Then again, not posting gives that same edge of the pot calling the kettle black, this time because you only criticize and don’t actually try writing yourself. I’m interested in how you solve that predicament. (I intend to check as soon as this is posted.)

~MissLisaBennett~

ps. I have to add the fact that you are missing one of the most annoying Mary Sues. Easily missed because she is not immediately described as beautiful and stunning and is usually not wearing clothes from Hot Topic, the GirlNextDoor!Sue is always in the shadows lurking with her sweet smile and old t-shirts. She is unbearably shy and has a heartbreaking home life and her parents may have died. Tragically of course. She is beautiful in her own way either because 1) she has the perfect body and it’s just hidden behind jeans or 2) she is slightly overweight but only prettier for it. I find this Sue so irritating because she can slip into the story where after you’ve gotten attached to it and you don’t realize until it’s too late. She is too easy to overlook and is often named after the author herself.

pps. Sorry for the atrociously long review.

That sounds like a particularly dangerous overdose of Mary Sues...
And what's even worse, no matter where you look, you find tons of 'em in places where they could be expected - but some also lurk in places where you'd least expect them.

Your lessons in discovering a Mary Sue are extremely helpful (not only as far as Harry Potter is concerned, but in other fandoms as well).
But the Sues that startled me the most are definitely the Adult!Sue and the Canon!Sue. Not only are they annoying - even worse, they are insidious! Where others can be easily spotted, these two sneak into a story in order to pop up at the worst possible moment and usually seem to wreak the most havoc...

Technically this is superb - you neatly get to the point of a problem. Furthermore I have really enjoyed your sarcasm since it is extremely fitting as far as this topic is concerned.

I was literally splatted on the table with laughter when I read the line, "Voldemort? Voldemort who?"
*snickers*
'Tis sad that you haven't been updating for quite a while...
Still, your sarcasm and humour is just awesome 8D
All of your fics are genius! It's really refreshing, too, to read a fic contains so much common sense that the clichéd plot users run far, far away and wish they can send you to the library with Hermione.
*bows*
Great job mocking/parodying all the Mary Sues! x)

I just wanted to say that all you wrote is amazingly insightful, funny and, above all, it comically rings true in every and each paragraph. And that I totally imagine the future half-cyborgs or whatever the human race will become, as well as aliens and company, studying diligently this document in order to understand the beginning of 21th Century :).

So..
I read some of the other reviews and I'm afraid I will just say the same, but on the other side I think revies are always welcome even if some things are repeated. Eventuall it just proofs that the good things that were said about this story are true.
I think it's time now to apologize for my bad, really bad, english, but my school (in Germany =)) thinks Latin is way more needed in the modern world and so I just had a few years english lessons ( and by the way the teacher failed to teach it properly).

Now, after telling you half of my life story I come to the point were I will tell you, that I love your story and I adore your way of writing. At some points I laughed so loud that my mom came to look if I was alright :P
I couldn't wait for the German translation anymore and I read in English, with my dictionairy right besides me.( It was rough, but I made it xD)

I would love to tell your boss you need more time, but I think I won't be able to get in touch with him^^.

I hope you will release the next chapter soon!

this is awesome. Em...
Do you mind if use it as a guide for writing a sue!story? I always try to stay away from that, but it irks me now so badly to try to write a story with an OC/Sue and see what I get.
I`m particullary insterested in Foreign!Sue.
Thanks for inspiring me XD I`ll be sure to write to you if I ever get enough time on my hands to write and post it. Yes, that was a pathetic attempt at being sadistic, lol. Sorry, but you must have read a lot of those to summarize it so well. Then again they`re EVERYWHERE! ANd gods, I started hating Harry/Ginny because of Angsty sue-ish Ginny.

oh girl, I love your stories!
I found the german translations at fanfiktion.de, but this wasn't enough, so I'm here now.
...
what a pity for you.

I already wrote it at the translation, but since I don't know, when R.A.B. will send it to you, I thought, I should review here too.

The only critizism I can add here, is that the TragicPast!Sue can be (and IS in fact most of the time... if not always) combined with ALL other Sues.
...
unfortunately.

And... well... I want to read more of you.
You won't be able to get rid of me now.
Poor one.

Oh, and please don't be offended by my English.
My last lesson was years ago.

;)
This makes me want to write about a 'Sue' and make her exetendly ordinary, as well as very flat chested.
About HarrysTwin!Sue,
I read one about a twin, but she was pretty much his opposite,
Looked like Lily, with James's eyes ;)
