Aw, dammit... Thanks for making that all sad because of what happens...! Sniff. Anyway, pretty well done. I like how Roy was able to calm Hughes down, especially getting his attention first by "the snap of military command in his voice." Good phrasing. Pretty good interaction between the two of them, saying some stuff but not all 'cuz they're guys and it would feel a little sappy for anyone if they had to say that kind of stuff out loud... And I LOVED the last line, even though it made me want to cry.

I thought this was a wonderful piece about the two. There's a wonderful friendship there, and I think you captured it perfectly. _ "To brothers" indeed. Loved how you handled Roy's "confession" to Maes; he is a man not prone to such displays, but sometimes these things need said, and I think Roy would know when Maes needs to hear such things.
