2009-08-16 . chapter 1
This has actually given me an interesting idea. Are you planning on continuing this, or is it a one shot?

Part of me wondered at the end of this if Dorian didn't already know of Basil's love for him, and Henry's jealousy that he has Basil's attention.

What if that "accidental" brush was actually Dorian's way of trying to get Basil to admit his feelings without frightening the poor artist? What if that last kiss had actually been Dorian punishing Henry for encouraging Basil to be so timid by constantly badgering his art and his self-esteem?

I'd love to see more.

Do you mind if I write a companion to this piece, or a spin-off based on it?

HOLY MOTHER GOD YES.
XD
You are now my new favorite person. Forever, always, and a day. Maybe a week, actually.
This is gorgeous. Gorgeously written and executed. You almost managed to capture the tone and style of Wilde himself; or at least, hint at it, which was lovely. There is too little of this amazing book.
I was so excited to find that fanfictions of it did, in fact, exist. Amazing work.

Ha... it's good to know I wasn't the only one seeing a bit of a romantic tryst between the three of them. Wonderful story, even though Basil may not be my favorite of the trio.

Oh. Very nice. Just the sort of thing I can see going on with those three, and I love Basil's voice in this.

Your note at the end is interesting, too. I shall have to find a copy of the book that has those passages in :)

Basil's musings on Harry's motives were so filled with bitterness that it felt authentic. His biased view of Dorian Gray came through, especially in the last line, and it epitomized his tragedy -- he didn't realize, until it was too late and despite countless protestations, that the man he worshipped did not deserve such admiration. I loved the effect of his idolatry on his views of Lord Henry -- Basil always insists that his oldest friend is a moral man, whatever he might say -- but here he must concede those views for Dorian's sake. It's beautiful, it's heartbreaking, and I adored it.

The last paragraph was absolutely haunting! I'm currently reading The Picture of Dorian Gray (I'm only on chapter 2), but this is really great! Basil seems really in character.

Poor Basil...
i have a copy of the book, but I might have to find one with some of the deleted material...
I love the story. They way you can't tell who's ruining who, Harry Dorian, or vice versa...

Wow, wow, oh wow. Yes, Lippincott's was great... I shall tell you a secret I don't normally state in reviews- I am writing a screenplay adaptation in hopes of making it a film some day, because it really it full of such visual drama that I have no doubt that it would be marvellous, and I figure on keeping a lot of the original things in there because I think that if Victorian England hadn't been so stupid he would have wanted them in. Anyway.
This is absolutely a fabulous piece of writing! Even in prose the music of your language is evident. The choice of words in places betrays your intimate knowledge of the Wildean universe and not only that, but you show so much personality in the characters- Basil, and his train of thought wrapped in with what he is witnessing, is obviously the best. But the very last words are the most moving, and I know they'll echo through my head later this day, probably much later-- who is corrupting whom? It is a good question. Poor Basil may never know...
