I love it! Carter is one of my five favorite characters from the show. I'm sure you can guess the other four. Did we really need all the dirty handcuff references? (Just teasing- they were very funny!)

Gosh Jeff, this was absolutely brilliant! I planned to only just read a chapter or two as I was pressed for time, but I was immediately hooked and read it all in one go! :) The interaction between Carter and Newkirk was perfect in capturing the essence of their characters and their friendship. The scene where Newkirk was teaching Carter to play gin-rummy was simply hilarious - I almost spilt my tea on my keyboard I was laughing so hard! Imagine getting a winning hand on your first go - Newkirk's reaction to that was beyond price! And I like the dodgy past you gave Newkirk and the way you contrasted it with Carter's farmboy naiveté - well done!

Thanks for this marvellous story - it's definitely a keeper! :):)

Great story, Jeff! I enjoyed your focus on the friendship and also showing Carter coming up with a great plan of his own. I've not seen "The Wicked Dreams of Paula Schultz" but what a brilliant scene showing Newkirk's "skills" =)

Got sent this at work to read... so glad the boys made it up. Carter can't stay mad for long, and Newkirk is always surprised when someone does something nice for him. But they are good friends down deep, and that will always come out. Nice work! Hippety hop!

Wow! Thanks for posting this story so quickly! Great characterizations. I like the way you write. Sometimes it's better to leave certain parts out and let the imagination of the reader take over...and I really liked the way you used that tactic in this story.

Very funny, yet you touched on their friendship nicely.

You do such a good job of writing Carter, whether he's being himself, or doing a brilliant German impersonation! (Nice job with Newirk, too)

Nice explanation of why Carter wore his gloves, and sometimes had a ring. I like this better than "oops! someone goofed!" Love the flashbacks, too.

I'm enjoying this story Jeff! I like the flash back bits in between the action of the current story, especially the part of Carter and his ring and Newkirk getting it back. =) Nice touch with offering an explanation of why he wears the gloves. LOL.

Can't wait to see how Carter's plan works out!
