Your looks are pale and wild and do import some misadventure - Look out Tybalt! Romeo is not a happy bunny! I went to see this at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford - go if you can. By the end of the night, every girl in the theatre was in love with Romeo! (He was played by David Dawson). I'd read this fan fiction before I went and I couldn't help thinking of it when Mercutio swaggered onstage...I like the idea of laughing to hide grief - a clown's greaspaint hiding a frown. But what actually happened? Did Mercutio's girlfriend die? I have to admit, I never saw Mercutio having a girlfriend...my mind has been swayed by all the Mercutio slash...but still. I loved it. Keep writing - can you do some for other Shakespeare plays please?

Here I was, searching for something sutiably depressing and Mercutio-related (because, hey, I just love the guy), and along came... you. Don't listen to Clerk C... or whatever the name was of your second-to-last reviewer, because this is just awesome. I love monologuing fics- don't attempt to over-think it, over-plot it like some people want. Get your point beautifully (which you did), give people something to remember (Which you did), and then leave it as is. Which I hope you do. This is great. Have you written anything else? I think I'll go look...

Oh, I really like this. I liked the modern/Shakespearian fusion style. Nice, really nice. I especially liked how Mercutio changed from "living to laugh" and "laughing to live". And the finishing line gives the piece a nice touch.

Aah, I feel like I'm critiquing a dish. I've been watching too much Food Network. =D

There's nothing solid in this at all - it's stuck between being someone's monologue and an actual story. There's just surface description and abstract attempts at poeticism.

If you want to move people, as this seems to be attempting, show them an actual situation, with people interacting and talking. Their actions will show their characters and relationships with a lot more impact on the audience than an abstract description that can be applied to anything - "after that, you laughed to live".

If you're trying to be poetic, you have to make it so perfectly suited to the characters, with solid imagery so that the audience can connect.

Also, the sentences, as a monologue sort of thing, are awkward and cliched, and don't seem to flow.

I see what you're getting at with this in relation to Mercutio, but it's a clumsy way to put it; make it more definite and related to him.

It was absolutely wonderful. Written very well, and I love anything involving analyzing Mercutio. I think that you over-emphasized the 'love' bit in the summary, though. It really didn't seem all that important to this.

I really think that's an interesting idea. I think "Romeo and Juliet" is one of the greatest pieces of literature ever written. And to answer your question, I have seen "Frankenthumb" (I love it!).

OMG! I love Shakespeare, and this is one of the best that I've read. Usually, people my age think that Shakespeare is boring, and I'm thrilled that people on this site actually write Shakespeare fan-fics. Keep writing! I loved it!
