A nice story! Good writing style! If you wrote it in third-person's point of view instead of first person's, the story would be more compelling. Honestly, Seta Soujiro you portray seems weak. Show some of his Tenken abilities to the readers! XD

Do we get to find out her name in the next chapter? She's a really interesting OC, exhibiting wisdom (when she purposely scares the kid into going back to his mom where it's safer) and kindness (when she asks if Soujiro likes his new job). I quite like her, and I truly hope she didn't speak from personal experience while steering the kid away from prostitution as a career choice.

Nicely written - I like the way you try to keep to polite Meiji era conversational patterns too.

VERY well done! Soujiro's foray into the real world is neither simple nor melodramatic. The characters and conditions he's running into ring true. Moral ambiguity is a part of the conditions we encounter in life. Thank you for not making things overly simplistic for Soujiro. This story shows a lot of promise.
