Interesting story, I have to admit the ending...it puzzled me a little. I think that from your description it was Shinji who spoke those final words although in truth I'm not entirely sure.

Despite that minor confusion I enjoyed the first part, as ever your descriptions were vivid and gave a definite sense of the world.
