Lorien Urbani 2009-12-12 . chapter 5Fantastic! I enjoyed every bit of this story. I loved your portrayal of Jonathan Crane, both just as Jonathan and as the Jonathan influenced by his alter ego, the Scarecrow. It was a very intense journey, and the moment when Jonathan and Scarecrow became one was really well written out; logical and beliavable.
I even felt sorry for Jonathan, but then again, both Jonathan and "he" are Jonathan. As you put is so perfectly, "he" is Jonathan's reflection.
Really, incredible. I wish there was more! I enjoyed it that much.
Cheers! |
Birgit Riddle 2006-01-16 . chapter 5This story was an enjoyable for me even if I don't quite agree with how you portray the relationship between Jonathan and the Scarecrow. But that part is merely a personal preference and is part of my version of Jonathan Crane. |
Azina Zelle 2005-09-07 . chapter 5Wow! You have pulled out the stops in this chapter! Truly disorienting in the scene where you really feel caught between Scarecrow and Rachel with Jonathan just barely trying to manage a normal conversation. Creepy how Scarecrow is taking over his body even when he is conscious! I am sad to see this fiction end. It is a fantastic piece of writing and I love your portrayal of Jonathan. |
Blodeuedd 2005-09-05 . chapter 5It's over! Wow! What a ride! To continue with the rollercoaster analogy - I want to go on it again!
Focusing...whew...ok...
Brilliant. Just brilliant. I do agree - it is painfully short. However, the ending is perfect the way it is, and perhaps excess verbiage would simply spoil the effect. Trust me, this story was EVERYTHING it aspired to be and more: angsty, dark, humorous, and downright terrifying at times. (Your much-hyphenated explanation makes perfect sense, by the way!)
As for the 'soundtrack' idea: I couldn't agree more. I've been feeling the same way with "Dark My Light." The pieces I listen to while writing the story are very much an integral part of the work. I've even made a playlist on my iPod of about 48 such songs that I listen to when I write. I don't know if it's against the rules here, though, and my advice is not to play with fire. Maybe you could post it on your website/LiveJournal or something instead, if you have one. Leave me a review with the URL if you do end up doing it that way; I'd love to see the musical roots of someone else's inspiration. If not, leave me the list of songs in one of your reviews. I am SO hellbent on hearing this!
But I digress. In short, FANTASTIC piece, I loved it very much. I will miss reading new posts, but I'll put it on my Favorites instead so I can reread whenever I want. Keep up the amazing work! You're a bloody good writer. ;) |
Azina Zelle 2005-09-05 . chapter 4I really love your portrayal of Scarecrow, very frightening and sadistic. You do a wonderful job of casting Scarecrow as a villain, relishing the pain and fear of others while Dr. Crane is desperately trying to keep him under control. I look forward to your next chapter! |
Blodeuedd 2005-09-04 . chapter 4Heehee! Rest assured we've had uberfun too. This chapter was delicious. Jonathan running around with his dual personalities at four AM, nearly smashing his nose into the floor, terrorizing patients, listening to the Goldberg Variations...sounds like me, aside from the terrorizing patients part. :) This piece just crackles with dark humor and suspense... please update soon! I love it so, so much! |
Skyler McAndrews 2005-09-04 . chapter 4Another great read. I really admire how well written the struggle is between Crane and Scarecrow. Great work, and looking forward to the final installation. ~SM |
Jonathansgirl18 2005-08-30 . chapter 3I love the next chapters and my enjoyanceness (I love the word you made up, I'm going to have to start using it) is pleased! I can't wait for the next one! But I have one question, what in the world does OOC stand for! I am still kinda knew here, and I am lost everytime I see OOC. But keep up the good work and I will be looking forward to the next one! |
 colddarknight1351 2005-08-29 . chapter 3Oh, wow. I am loving this.
I love the way you characterized Crane, very true and right on the spot. But, I especially love the internal fight between Crane and him. The way you wrote it was suburb, exactly how it should be written. I can't wait to see what happens. |
Skyler McAndrews 2005-08-29 . chapter 3I really enjoy this story. I love how you have Dr. Crane and the Scarecrow constantly battling. Very well written. |
Blodeuedd 2005-08-28 . chapter 3"Trying to keep me out? That’s impossible. I am you!"
Swet. For me, that basically sums up the awesomeness of this story in one sentence. But I bet there's more awesomeness to come, so that's only temporary.
Love the conflict between Jonathan, Jonathan's evil voice, and Rachel...you could practically hear the 'nails-on-the-blackboard' friction there.
Post Chapter 4 SON! |
HoneyBee1 2005-08-26 . chapter 2Ooh, how creepy. The way you make Crane as Schizo is just pretty much disturbing. Kinda like Gollum, eh? This is a good piece of writing, keep up the good work. I can't wait to read the next chapter. |
Blodeuedd 2005-08-26 . chapter 2The tension in this chapter snatches the reader up in chokehold. I'm not kidding; I was on tenterhooks during his entire session with "Patient M"/Nicole. And when his alternate personality finally manifested itself, broke through his usually unshatterable composure...that was just creepy, okay? Creepy. You're really taken us off the beaten path here, and it's wonderful. Crane isn't a frigid, slightly manaical person in this story, like so many others. In this one, he's a frigid, slightly manaical person with a dangerous and volatile alter ego that is struggling to break free...and in this chapter, it's finally succeeded. Please keep the chapters coming! I love your originality. |
Jonathansgirl18 2005-08-26 . chapter 1I don't think I have read any Cranefic that has this particular portrayal of Jonathan's mind, and I must say that it is fantastic. The way you added his alter ego is a nice breath of fresh air away from the usual depiction of the Dr. Crane we all know and love. I think that this is a simply superb story line and I am sincerely looking forward to the next one. |
Blodeuedd 2005-08-25 . chapter 1I think you're the only person so far to have really captured what it would be like if the Scarecrow was not merely Jonathan Crane, but rather a part of the whole. The 'voice' is so real and persistent that the readers almost feel the grate of this eerie, merciless personality in their own heads. But the other aspects of the story come across equally strong. Your sentences are carefully crafted and poignant: each one has a weighty meaning and fragile lilt. And, of course, what would a Cranefic be without an excellent portrayal of Jonathan himself?? You certainly haven't failed in that area either; Jonathan is a psychological shipwreck here, clinging to his last tatters of sanity and righteousness. Amazing work. This would do well as a multi-chapter story OR a oneshot. I'll put it on my Story Alert just in case you decide to further cultivate this fascinating idea. Again, amazing work! |
