Nicely done. I like the characterizations of both Shizune and Neji. You made their situation absolutely believable, which is not easy to do with 'crack' pairings. So much so that I can't view it as a crack pairing. Well done.

I must say I really enjoyed the pairing. I also like the way you disguised Neji but gave in little clues. Tastefully done.

I really enjoyed how you began the story with vague details without mentioning the character names and gradually worker their identities into the story. This piece is so well thought out and interesting. Very nice job.

That was remarkable. This is easily the best Naruto fanfiction I've ever read. Shizune x Neji is a pairing I enjoy thoroughly, even more so thanks to The Slant. It is well written, smooth, smart and endearing. You should be proud of how good this really is.

Neji and Shizune is an interesting pairing. I can't wait to read more!

I just read Hindsight's 2020 and because it was something different and I liked it I thought I would read this too.

Hmm this fanfic is certainly interesting. Would never have thought of Neji/Shizune, but you've certainly written it well. It almost seems natural for them to be together. I loved the way you added in all the subtle details, such as the part where Neji went into the compound through the back door.

For awhile there I thought it was a oneshot. But I assume it isn't? Would love to see you updating this anyway. So good luck on this, and on Hindsight's 2020 as well!

WOW! This is a pairing I never would have thought of, but the way you put it really works. I can't wait for you to get going on this story. I want to see what kind of conflicts you're going to bring into it.

I've never read a NejixShizune fanfic, but after reading yours, I'm definitely going to look into it!
My favorite parts of the story may have been minor touches on your part, but really added depth to the story, almost a story within the story itself, such as

"There were moments when he couldn’t help but rage at the injustice of it. It was unfair that he curb his life to suit family politics that shouldn’t even exist in the first place. But then he remembered her calming hands that healed the blinding and volatile emotions within him and reminded him that at least he could fix it. His sacrifices would make sure that the next generation would be free of servitude. And the generation after that would be free altogether. And the generation after that would be able to take that freedom for granted, just like everyone else."

and

"The gates of the Hyuuga compound loomed ominously ahead, their black wood testament to status, privilege and power.

He did not enter through them.

Moving down a well beaten path, Neji walked the length of the walls until he reached the small, worn out entrance used exclusively by the branch family."

Those were my personal favorites, but I appreciated all the other touches sprinkled throughout the story. Thank you! You've managed to more fully develop two characters in a few short scenes than many writers do in a saga. It was a very thought-provoking and beautiful story, and I enjoyed every bit of it!

a really nice story, with such an unusual pairing! I really never heardof this one, but somehow you made it work!

Read it... and it just doesn't generate as much interest in me as the other story (Hindsight's 20/20). I mean, it's good style-wise, grammar-wise, etc (coz it's you writing it), but that's about it. Frankly, I can't see Hiashi giving tuppence about who Neji dates/marries. So what if it's an older woman? His main concern would be Hinata and Hanabi, being of the main family. And Hiashi isn't really as much of a bastard that most fics make him out to be.

So I totally vote for "Hindsight's 20/20" in terms of update priority... It's just so much more interesting.
