That line about Jiriya watching the last of his students die was heartbreaking. Perhaps a sentence or two to tell us when we were in the past and when the present would help? I was a little confused by the timeline in the first couple of paragraphs, but eventually I caught on. In any event, it's lovely writing, as always. |

Jiraiya is absolutely right that nothing every makes Orochimaru happy, and I really like the idea of Sarutobi writing letters and sending presents, yet still being the flawed, blind sensei to his student(s) failings.
