oh wow...lovely insightful ron POV. i really liked that ron was the first to understand why snape killed dumbeldore as he's mostly portrayed as just hating snape. people usually overlok him thinking hes either a comedy character or just harry's sidekick...or they bash him

I liked this side of Ron--the chess genius and strategist. Brilliant way to slowly turn Ron towards Snape's line of thought.

very interesting. i think you captured the potential in ron that jkr never fully developed or even used. as cliched as comparing a chess game to the war in hp is, you worked in ron's musings perfectly to match both the mood and the moves. great story.

This is the first fanfic I have come across in a REALLY long time that doesn't portray Ron as an idiot. Thank you for resurrecting the boy who beat the chess set!! I loved his view of the night on the Astronomy Tower. :)

I love this oneshot. I'm so used to seeing Ron written as the bigoted idiot who constantly explodes with irrational anger that sometimes I forget his potential. Even though I don't believe this is who JKR finalized him as, this is what *could have been*. And I like this could have been.

Overall, this is a very insightful, intelligently written piece. Bravo.

oh. I wish Ron was more like that in the books-- he used to be my favorite character, y'know? 'course the last two books kinda' ruined that. But now Snape is my fav, and I suppose that's better.

I love this! It's such an interesting insight into Ron's character, making him much stronger and more talented than he appears in the books while still being canon. Your take on Snape is also very good -- showing the complexities of his nature and how Ron understands.

It took me a little while to understand who he was thinking of in terms of pieces (the bishop, knight, king), but I think I got it. I thought his take of Dumbledore and Harry -- "demoting" Dumbledore to only a bishop and calling Harry the king -- was very interesting and telling of his personality.

Anyway, I really like this and hope you keep writing!

This is officially one of my favorite RON pieces. I don't think I've ever loved Snape more. Thank you for sharing this.

Loved it. As a chess person myself I like the angle and it does make sense. Ron always seems a bit underdevoloped (at least in the fics I've seen) and your new look at him makes sense. As does the Dumbledore Snape sacrifice. Also like the look at Hermione. I could really see Ron here as the next Dumbledore or Snape. I assume the knight's movements you mentioned in your story alludes back to the first book and first task?

What a great story! You have your characters down so perfectly. Except that Ron always seems to be slightly stupid in cannon. But he couldn't be, could he, if he was really so good at chess... Good understanding of the motivations of the characters, and the nature of the GAME that both Ron is playing, and the game that they all are caught up in.
