Niko Nightwind 2009-11-27 . chapter 6*grins* That was... really cute. And it's so nice to see realism, families are all hunky-dory when reunited. |
QuestofDreams 2009-10-28 . chapter 6This was WONDERFUL. Utterly wonderful. This sounds absurd, but I feel all warm and fluffy inside XD I absolutely loved how flawed and amazing Heero's family was. I alternately hated and sympathized with the dad and Yoko was perfectly teenaged and Calli was adorable and Heero's mother... oh man, I felt for her.
But Heero. OMG Heero. He was amazing and observant and stiff and so well written. He never gave an inch and it was PERFECT. This was a really beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing it! |
faith bonksie 2009-10-27 . chapter 6aww this is good!! |
Zilwicki 2009-10-10 . chapter 6great story, your writing is superb. Idon´t think your Heero is OOC, we´re seeing him through Yokos eyes after all. And, as you said, the situation would cause anyone to act OOC. I guess his mother really got to him. |
katharina 2009-10-10 . chapter 6 Wow. You really know how to tell a story.
I thought putting one of the Gundam pilots into an ordinary family would never work, but you did it. And by the end of the story it felt r i g h t. Like something that could have really happened.
Great characterization, too. Heero´s relatives are so mundane and flawed, yet you made them likable and profound. I just wish I could write like that. |
Rosa Lui 2009-09-14 . chapter 5*waves* Hi! Um, I think I've already reviewed this story before.
Like, twice.
But I felt the need to do it again! (I'm not stalking you, I promise. :D)
Someone a few review down mentioned how they'd love to see Duo or any of the other pilots meeting Heero's family - the clash of lifestyles (though it need not be an unhappy clash) would be fascinating.
I also keep having this image in my head of a family gathering - I assume Heero's parents must have brothers or sisters or parents still around? I just find this interesting because they must have been hearing for AGES about what a "problem child" Heero was being. I also have this odd image of Heero carrying a sleeping Calli out of the car after a long trip to some other family member's house. ^^' (I feel like it would show how much Heero's parents finally trust him now, as well.)
I'm so sorry to be bombarding you with this, and please understand that I'm not at all expecting you to do anything with my ideas - I just wanted to show you that you created a wonderful, very inspiration little 'verse here, and if you were ever to continue it, you'd have a bunch of people cheering you on. :D |
Mahayana 2009-06-28 . chapter 1I will be honest, I nearly cried at the end. This was so powerful and strikingly well constructed. I loved Heero's characterization. "Hajime" was an apt choice for his real name, since it fits right into the GW naming scheme. I loved how Heero's family came across as real people, and I love how despite Heero's quiet demeanor, his emotion came through the narration. Yoko was a good choice for the narrator. The parallel with the canary flying away, and his family expecting Heero to run away was beautifully written. I loved the theme of hands running through the chapters, and it broke my heart how Yoko described Heero's hands, both at the beginning, middle, and end of the story. The description of how his hands fit into the family almost made me cry. And how his father finally recognized the kindness of his young son in Heero was incredibly compelling and heart-breaking, especially in light of all the arguing and denials from Heero's father.
Despite my rambling on, I have no words that do justice to just how amazing this story is, and how deeply it made me feel for Heero. Thank you so much for writing this, and sharing it with us. |
Asilem Dlanod 2009-05-02 . chapter 6Wow. That was powerful. I likes. You have a nice narration style. Kudos! |
Crystal Cat-chan 2009-04-15 . chapter 6Wow, that was a wonderful interpretation of Heero's origins. I think people sometimes forget that the Gundam Pilot was once a kid and had to come from somewhere. I don't normally go for First person, but Yoko was an excellent narrator. The entire family jived so well with me. And isn't it just Heero's luck for his family to be Pacifists. I really would love to see the rest of the Pilots meet them, especially Duo. And Relena as well. Fascinating and wonderful tale. |
fanfiction-freak 2009-04-01 . chapter 6I really liked this fic. I wish you would continue it, or maybe post a sequel! This was really well written, and I love a confused Heero!! It's so cute! Thanks for sharing this! |
 Haruka-Hime 2009-03-28 . chapter 6Very down to earth. |
Lynn10 2009-03-09 . chapter 6I thought this story was very, very nicely done! It is hard to find stories of this quality nowadays, especially with having to sift through all the yaoi plotless-ness. There were minimal spelling errors, which only made the story more enjoyable to read. I also loved how you developed Heero's character, as well as your own original characters. Everything felt real to me, and this "realness" kept my interest throughout the whole story.
Thank you for sharing this. Excellent work,
~Lynn |
Rosa Lui 2009-01-09 . chapter 1I'm sure I've reviewed this story before - possibly more than once. I felt the need to do it again.
This is possibly my favourite portrayal of Heero ever. You have him in character like I can't believe - ANYONE coming home to a "long lost family" who somehow lost you when you were little is bound to have issues with them, but for Heero, it's like... awkwardness and anger of epic proportions. This idea (Heero-has-a-family) has been done before, but never done well. The OC's are characters of their own, they have personalities and feelings and emotions, and they're certainly not perfect. They are (at least at first sight) nothing like Heero, so they clash horribly, and that is PERFECT!!
It's like you didn't write a fanfic, you wrote an original novel that just happened to have Heero Yuy in it. The intricacies and characterizations - solid all the way through - are what made it. And Calli was... amazing. The way she wakes him up ("wake up, slugabug!") was priceless. And the little details that come full circle in the end - the bird, their hands, the blue blanket, Calli calling him "Hero" - are just full of win. XDD
Now that I'm done with this very rambling review, I'll just say that if you ever wanted to write a sequel or an associated one-shot, I'm sure your readers would love it!! |
Sora the Taske 2008-09-08 . chapter 6Very nicely done. I enjoyed it throughally. |
Violet Shadows 2008-07-24 . chapter 6One of the greatest injustices I think i've ever witnessed was how this fandom lost popularity. There are some disturbingly good authors who write gundam wing fanfiction, but despite that they never get the attention they deserve. This is one of those cases.
Despite the numerous fics people are still capable of writing original and interesting pieces. The narrative, the style, the flow, all of it was way above par. And the scenes with wufie at the end and when Heero first sees the shell shocked guy, priceless.
These days its all about Naruto, or Harry Potter, or Bleach, but most people forget the classics, and the people who practically invented quality fics like kraken and Sunhawk. This was a nice flashback and its good to see people are still capable of writing quality gundam wing fics, despite the fandoms age. All in all, it was a well written short chapter fic and I hope to see more like it in the comming years.
