They are both perfectly in character, epecially Gai. I love how you don't include all of his little quirks, but take those who fits into the story and gives them background.

Most people don't give Gai's character any chances, but I think there's something more to his enthusiastic nature, strange sense of style, and silly challenges. He's a unique individual, and so is Kakashi, but they fit together so well.
