I'm not sure I see a pairing in here, but I definitely think everyone's missing the point (or I missed it)... Shikamaru IS as smart as he thinks he is and was a step or two ahead of Temari - Gaara thinks he's immune to Shintenshin but actually isn't. "Gaara was smiling as he fell into unconsciousness" as in Gaara doesn't have Shuukaku's protection like he thought. At any rate, it's an interesting idea... I like it! :-)
