 Uzumaki-Emre-Chan 2008-07-30 . chapter 1i love this story, it's very emotional
Dark is not the word for it... it shows how empty cedric's father is after his death |
Pyrebi 2006-03-11 . chapter 1I actually thought Cedric's death was more tragic in the book, but that's just me. During the movie, however, I squirmed uncomfortably in my seat while Amos wept over Cedric's body. I agree that his portrayal was probably the best of anyone's yet in the Harry Potter movies.
Your story was absolutely wonderful. I liked your decision to omit his wife in order to make him completely alone. I knew Amos's life revolved around his son, but I didn't really stop to consider what he would do once his center was ripped away from him.
I really enjoyed your work, and I'm glad I found this story to read. You've done a fantastic job of giving Amos Diggory more depth. This story's a favorite for me, no question. |
Occhio di Lince 2006-01-01 . chapter 1This is... amazing. I agree with you completely, that the scene in the movie made his death seem so much sadder and so tragic than it is in the book. But even after seeing the scene in the movie, I never actually thought too much about the reactions to his death beyond Harry's, Dumbledore's, maybe Cho's. It seems kind of bad, but his father's reaction never even crossed my mind beyond what I read in the book. But now that I think about, this is exactly how I would imagine him reaction... You captured it wonderfully. It made me feel so sad for Amos...
... I'll stop now, because I'm basically just rambling. There were a few formatting errors (dashes don't show up in the summary, so dig-dig-diggory is digdigdiggory) and there were a couple N's with accent marks in one paragraph, but nothing else I would change about it. |
IloveSam 2005-12-14 . chapter 1Wow...this is really touching...I had the same feeling as you when seeing that scene in the movie! Of course I felt bad for the Diggory's in the book, but not before seeing Amos break down over his son's dead body did it really strike me as tragic...I'm really glad you wrote this story, most Cedric-stories are about Cho after his dead, while she of course is not the only one who mourns for him! This fic really captures the feeling of emptiness that Amos must have, perfectly! Very touching, very well done. |
vster 2005-12-12 . chapter 1 awesome story, really well written. congrats. |
Templa Otmena 2005-12-12 . chapter 1You summed it up perfectly before you had even begun-
'In the book, Cedric's death is a shock and a horror, but it never struck me so hard as a tragedy until I saw it done in the film. Amos Diggory's screams when he breaks through the crowd are so haunting, so much that he gives me chills...'
In the same way I had always known how truly dark and horrific GoF was but it was not until the film that it truly struck home. That scene after the Third Task is stunning and utterly heartbreaking and you have captured it so very, very well here.
Those few paragraphs in the book where JK relates the meeting between Harry and the Diggorys', where Amos is openly weeping but Cedric's mother seemed beyond tears has always been difficult for me to read because it's so raw. You've captured that here. Amos is a joy to read- you have truly done the subject matter justice :)
It's great to hear from you again over in HP... I am quite the obsessive fan of 'Prongs Rides Again' and your other vignettes and I hope to read more from you on ANY topic- as soon as possible! |
