Vana Tuivana 2005-12-23 . chapter 1The more that I read this... the more I love it, and Caranthir, and the C/H that you have nurtured for so long. Love, love, love! And I wish that, just once, I could write a love-story half as skillfully as you do your beautiful tales of Caranthir and Haleth.
But you already know of my love for your writings, so enough of my raving. I think, honestly, that this is my favorite story you have yet written. Your portrayal of these two (particularly Caranthir, my darling darkling boy!) has grown and matured to the point where you scarcely need any description of their relationship at all -- it merely exists, and is comfortable in itself. I really do admire that.
My other favorite thing about this story is the anguish of Caranthir. Yes, I like angst, you know! But more than that: the fact that he connects his mistakes with Haleth to his mistakes with Ulfang; how he rages at his brothers for warning him against Haleth and not warning him against Ulfang; simply, my dear, this is the most complex portrayal of this particular Feanorian I have ever seen, and I think you give him a wonderfully real and 'human' (oh, but he would shriek at being called human, wouldn't he?!) character within the bounds of canon.
I really can't express it any more clearly than that. Wonderful work, anyway -- and I still think you should have won that challenge! :-) |
Blodeuedd 2005-12-21 . chapter 1(stands up and starts doing the slow, 80s-teen-movie clap...everyone else joins in one by one) I don't think I need to go into insanely meticulous detail about how mind-blowingly good this piece was. Such a response would take pages and pages and would end up with me blithering like a giddy third-grader about how "hott" Caranthir is or something equally ridiculous. So...let me try and sum it up as professionally as I can:
You told me you were writing this story earlier this month. I began reading it with high expectations. All of these expectations were not only reached, but amazingly exceeded. Brilliant work, as always. (more clapping)
And now for a reversion to infancy and silly girlishness:
OMG! CARANTHIR IS SO HOTT! I LUV HIM! HE AND HALETH R SO CUTE! UR A GOOD WRITER! |
