There's nothing wrong with a break from action every now and again...especially in the face of angst.

And besides, Alphonse is the world's only metal teddy bear...at least the only one I know of. He's allowed to borrow the spotlight.

Anyway, I liked this, a lot. It was sweet and sad at the same time.

Seriously though, you truly are a fantastic writer, and have managed to convey brotherly love in a way that would make Arakawa proud. Characterization is flawless, as usual, as it is absolutely like Al to be resigned to his state yet frustrated by Ed shouldering the guilt which in turns fuels feelings of insecurity at his own existence.
