PollyWantCookie 2/1/10 . chapter 1Nice story... as to the trouser problem - there was no real uniform back then, they just decided on some certain signs of rank, the naval colours had been dark blue and white before, and there you have the altogether similar look. Besides, the officers clothes were subjected to fashion as well, and they had them tailored (see HH 4: The Frogs and the Lobsters), whereas the hands could wear what their liked, but often bought their clothes ("slops") from the purser/steward.
Anyway, throughout the series you can see officers in breeches both white and blue and long trousers in these colours as well. I also noticed that there are two different kinds of blue around, just compare Bush's and Kennedy's uniforms.
The wikipedia has an entire article on the topic, I think you can get the link somewhere in the "Royal Navy" article. |
 Malinorn 9/4/04 . chapter 1Great story! well done! |
 Caligurl 12/14/03 . chapter 1 pretty good! |
LadyBush 11/10/02 . chapter 1Just thought I would complicate the whole pants thing. I watched The Examination for Lieutenant (Fire Ships) last night and Hornblower was wearing... green trousers. So yeah you could wear white, blue or green trousers.
Also, Paul McGann as Doctor Who- ahhhhhhhh... |
LadyBush 9/29/02 . chapter 1 I'm glad there are more Mr Bush fans out there! When I saw Mutiny I just fell in love with him (Bush more than Paul McGann as such). Good story.
Would sign but not logged in.
NB Leiutenants can wear both white and blue trousers; Bush strikes me as more of a blue trousers man! WB forever! |
Fernanda 3/28/02 . chapter 1 Yes ,I have to admitt it, I am another Bush fanatic. He,s such a thoughtful, sensitive character and I love Paul McGann,s voice. You capture him well. What Archie did was beyond honour, but I think I,m going to enjoy the Horatio, Bush dynamic more.Archie was sweet, but Bush is deeper.More of an enigma. |
Ayssa Jasmine Ryan 3/27/02 . chapter 1 i thought this story was really sad and it made me cry i love Horatio and Archie and i cried when Archie died it was so sad

Jou-chan 1/11/02 . chapter 1 I'm glad to know I'm not the *only* one who was majorly drooling over Bush. Bush and Kennedy, definitely the ones I liked. And so this is a perfect fic, in my standards! - Seriously, I like the introspect, and it's cool to see a different point of view on what might have happened. Great work, and keep it up! |
J English 12/8/01 . chapter 1 Story is nicely done. I've watched all HH movies many times. To be honest, I knew nothing about Paul McGann, but I was quickly won over while remaining an Archie Kennedy fan. As for the blue pants, I believe (and I could be mistaken) that the uniforms of the time required either white or blue as the wearer chose. You'll note that Archie, along with Sawyer and Buckland, also wore breeches and stockings, and that Horatio wore white trousers as well as blue. I imagine this is the whim of fashion. |
 Lux 7/7/01 . chapter 1Archie :(... This was a good read, a sad, but good read. |
Kathy 5/6/01 . chapter 1 i did not see the first set of movies. I watched this time to see what all the fuss was about. I liked them vert much-particularly the Mr. Bush character. I thought he had wonderful chemistry with Horatio. As for Archie-he didn't do anything for me. I enjoyed your story very much. I also wondered about the blue pants?Perhaps Bush is more senior in status and so wears different color trousers-or perhaps he is in another branch of the navy-much like the green jackets were for the 95th rifles in the Sharpe movies, while all the others wore red jackets. |
SLWatson Serris 5/5/01 . chapter 1 First of all, you have our biggest kudos! Excellent characterization, and we absolutely love the way you tie the scenes from the movie in with everyone's thoughts. Add in the fact that SL's severely in love with Bush and I just as bad for dear Mr. Kennedy, and you have just become one of our newest heroes. No small feat, I assure you. ::wink:: Keep it up, and we'll be here for the ride. |
Nightengale 5/4/01 . chapter 1 I watched the movies mainly for Bush, too. Glad someone else feels the same. If you haven't read the books, he is a major character throughout the series. Here's to hoping for more movies with him in it. I loved your missing scenes and here's to hoping for more of your awesome work.

ethiercn 5/4/01 . chapter 1 Pretty good for someone who hasn't seen the first movies. Very good. Of course, I'm biased I like Bush. But the characterization is excellent and the snippets (I guess this is the right word) fit in very well with the movie.
As for the blue pants. I wondered about that myself. I think that perhaps McGann is slightly shorter then the others and the blue pants hide the fact. In addition, they also give him a degree of presence which sets him off from the others in Mutiny, allowing the viewer to question which way Bush is going to go. |
Trekkieb 5/4/01 . chapter 1 I liked it! I rather liked Lt. Bush, though not as much as Horatio. :-) |
