grayangle 2006-11-14 . chapter 5Now I am starting to see how you changed things up a bit and I got to say I like it. I'll get to the end sooner or later so more please. |
grayangle 2006-11-14 . chapter 3I do love the end of this chapter. "Now sit down to be awed by the greatness that is the Enterprise." Good story so far, I started in your latest part of the story and like that even though a had a sneaky suspition I was reading a part not-one. It did take a two chapter to look to see if this was true. I must say even jumping in to the 'middle' of a story I still got a good feeling for the characters and liked them. You are a good writer, keep it up. |
Iceman 2006-05-02 . chapter 10 Very well done, Admiral! I like your rendition of Star Trek TOS, it reminds me of how they reimagined Battlestar Galactica, a bit more gritty than the actual Star Trek ever was. |
Admiral 2006-04-01 . chapter 10 Thanks for the good word, RedSeven. I just want to respond to this:
"Since this is a reimagining nitpicks concerning canon elements are irrelevant, but a small comment on the "hood ornament" paragraph a few chapters ago: On the TrekBBS a long while back, it seemed to be the general consensus that placement of the bridge mattered little for the weapons technology allowed one to effectively punch through a ship once its shields were gone... Personally I think the saucer-and-hull arrangement is poor for warship design but it's supposedly the most efficient for maintaining subspace fields and whatnot... Speed is life I suppose."
The placement of the bridge on top is significant because the command center is always going to be a primary target. Shields or not, a realistic enemy is always going to go for it first. You might still get away if those weapons are punching holes in dead space because the bridge can't be located, but if you hang it right out there and say to the Bad Guys, "Okay, shoot me!", he will.
And the the arrangement of the ship has nothing to do with subspace fields. It's three sections: Command, Service and Propulsion, the way Matt Jefferies originally planned it. The point of it is to keep the main engines as far away from the populated areas of the ship as possible. |
RedSeven 2006-03-31 . chapter 10A most interesting reimagining of classic Trek, and with the way it's written it bears a resemblance to early Trek itself. I like how shipboard operations are depicted and the Fleet vocabulary, which is also reminiscent of TOS but was slowly taken out of subsequent incarnations. The usage of the pre-TNG Trek universe (institutions, history, terminology, tech and whatnot that were eventually altered or deleted to suit episode writers' later stories) is appealing, since I personally like to read about classic Trek and most of the military-oriented stuff seems to fall in that time frame (even if most of that is only in the novels).
All in all, pretty good. Since this is a reimagining nitpicks concerning canon elements are irrelevant, but a small comment on the "hood ornament" paragraph a few chapters ago: On the TrekBBS a long while back, it seemed to be the general consensus that placement of the bridge mattered little for the weapons technology allowed one to effectively punch through a ship once its shields were gone... Personally I think the saucer-and-hull arrangement is poor for warship design but it's supposedly the most efficient for maintaining subspace fields and whatnot... Speed is life I suppose. |
Admiral 2006-03-23 . chapter 10To pinoy13: First, thank you for all your kind words! It does my heart good to know that someone enjoys my work so much, and I'm humbled by it. I was touched to read about you and I'm glad I can contribute to your well-being even in my own small way.
Second, I have no intention of giving up writing. I'm working on the sequel to this story right now. This story actually is complete (I noticed you reviewed at chapter five. Read on. You have five more chapters to go!) and I have plenty of other stories to tell.
Thank you again, and I'll try to be faster with future new stories and updates. |
OriginalKevinJ 2006-02-23 . chapter 10Good stuff. This comes across almost as if it were a sequel series to "Enterprise", it has more of that show's "flavor" than that of the Original Series...I like it. |
Rigil Kent 2006-02-08 . chapter 10This absolutely rocks. I want to thank you for bringing some much needed reality back to Trek ... if this were a television show, I'd tune in every single episode. |
Admiral 2006-01-27 . chapter 1 Thanks for the kudos, guys, and yes there's more coming.
And Chuck, for the foreseable future in this verse, there is no Spock. |
QQQ 2006-01-25 . chapter 10 That is it?!
Chuck 2006-01-25 . chapter 1 Great story! Sequel? and where is spok? |
Chuck 2006-01-25 . chapter 10 Great story, but I have a question. Will there be a sequel? and where is Spok? |
