That being said, you're really making Bess come alive, to become more than just the sidekick character we love. Her bitterness and sadness are palpable, as is the love between Nancy and Ned...I never thought I would say this, but for once, I'm really very sorry Bess didn't get the guy she wanted. |

You're again showing me a side of Bess that while I can't necessarily relate to, I can empathize with. For whatever reason, I'd assumed the first-person POV was Nancy...what a flip in perspective. Listing Bess' hopes, dreams; seeing Ned through her hungry eyes - makes her desire seem almost dangerous. One wonders if it is really Ned she's so keen on, or simply the fact that Nancy and Ned have been so committed to each other for so long and through so much madness. Keep writing, and I'll keep reading! |
