s 2009-08-02 . chapter 14 This is a really great fic. I'm curious about what Faith discussed with the Chairman when she asked Harry to leave the room. I know it has been awhile, but you really should continue this, it is really great. The one think I'm not yet convinced of is a Faith/Harry pairing. But you never know... |
J12 2009-07-07 . chapter 1 This was an excellent crossover, one of the best in the buffy/hp category. Everything was written to a degree of excellence that one can't really expect from fanfiction. There were, however, two things that in my opinion, damaged the story a great deal.
The first thing really isn't a big deal, it's really just slightly irritating in how cliche it is - the rags to riches bit with the slayer trust fund at Gringotts. I like that for once Harry wasn't the party to become a multimillionaire in a matter of minutes, but it's still a bit irritating to see, since it happens in so many fics.
The second issue I have almost made me stop reading the fic. Faith is a Mary-Sue, plain and simple. She's beautiful, she's smart, she's super-strong, she's a master of hand to hand combat, she's super street smart, she's got a tragic past, and she's got a bad-girl appeal to her. Admittedly, that's all cannon for BTVS. The problem lies in the fact that in addition to all of that, you made her a witch. And not just any witch, but apparently some kind of magical prodigy, that can unintentionally levitate a desk without even properly learning a single spell, and manages to kill a large group of death eaters with a fourth year spell using a wand that's not attuned to her, in what appears to be the second spell we've ever seen her cast.
Personally, I think that a powerful wizard and a powerful slayer would complement each others abilities quite well, there's no need to cross into the boundary of the mary sue when both characters are extremely formidable opponents without even slightly stretching their cannon abilities, let alone stretching them to the degree of this story.
I hope you take this as the constructive criticism it is, since I have really enjoyed your fic, and I'm terribly disappointed to see there aren't any recent updates. |
