very poignant piece of writing. especially admire the way hijikata is portrayed- a lone wolf left standing even as his entire world crases down before hin. his sense of courage and inner determinatio is really touching.

Loved this. The pacing, the descriptive language, Hijikata's feelings, Okita's attempts at making him feel better...everything. Souji's words at the end were almost bitter, but wistful too. Beautifully written.

Thanks for making me sad. In a good way, of course.

That was so sad...but so beautifully written! The description of the snow, the reflecting tone, their conversation...and a perfect wistful ending. The part where Okita drinks the medicine even though they all know it's useless was especially powerful. And the reference to poetry..wonderfully done. Great oneshot!
