BlackWolf 6/9/03 . chapter 1
You're good, I like how you play up the connection the two share despite their being on opposite sides of the fence on how to do things in Seattle. Your "Darker" series of DA stories have been great.

No. Not sappy. Just angsty. Sappy would be if she went in and they had sloppy kisses on the couch whispering sweet nothings in each other's ears before doing something unbearably cute, like cooking dinner and having a food fight.

This is about as unsappy as a sappy fic could be. In the end nothing happpens. They are still trapped in their own lives. So don't worry about it you're not disappointing anyone.

Hmmm... I don't know what to say. I liked the story, even though I don't like mushy Logan and Max :) That's just me... Don't think they belong together. That said... I didn't feel like I was reading anything new. You already established in Code of Honor that Max and Logan miss each other and that Max looks in on him every once in a while. Still, your style comes through loud and clear and I did finish and review it. So it wasn't all bad :)

I just read both "Code of Honor" and "Aprentice Becomes the Master" , and I got to say I like what you're doing, writing different stories with diferent angles in the same universe. About being sappy... The story of justice will only be complete, with these elements Action,Angst and Romance. If you take one out, you will probably take the fun out of the story. The fact that Max and Logan still love each other, creates an objective and a purpose for both characters (especially justice) to overcome their obstacles. I know you'll probably end this one here. But I'll be looking forward for more "Code of Honor".

Well, imagine my surprise at seeing "Romance" as the genre for one of your fics! Even with "Angst" balancing it out. ;) And while I'll preface this by saying that I'm a sap for sap (as you can probably tell by my own fics), I really enjoyed this. I think it adds dimension to the Max you're portraying-not only how much she's left behind, but how willing she's been to hurt her closest friend in the process. The fact that she knows what she's missing and still chooses not to pursue it pushes her out even further to the "point of no return" you're going for. The paragraph about them playing chess and trading stories is really excellent-you manage to sum up their relationship extremely well in very few words. And good insight that their separation is partially Logan's fault, too; he can't give up his crusade any more than she can give up hers. That has interesting implications for both of them. Anyway, I think interludes like this can only add to your characters and make us as readers even more aware of what's on the line during your action sequences. And kudos to you as a writer for stepping out on a limb and trying something new (at least relative to the rest of your work that I've read). My opinion is that you were quite successful. And I'm looking forward to the next installment of murder and mayhem. :)
