One of the most intreaging subjects of your story is when you start your story with parts of Kaoru and Saitou's conversation before you continue on with the story. Then there is the most agravating, Kaoru's justice and innocence! As if the world is such a nice place as if the bad guys really do stay in jail! My god can you get any more DUMB! Its like she can't get past the fact that killing is wrong and thats it. No exceptions in her book. Maybe she could get a clue the hard way by being raped by the bad guys or something but other then that I see no way for her to get her head out of her delusions!
I'm sorry that I am ranting on about your fictional characters but my god for some starnge reason your version of Kaoru really irritates me. I can plainly see way you have her play the part but is she going to grow up soon! I hope so. I love your story but I really want her character development to happen soon!

Good use of details. The bumblebee's flight, the squirrel that darted across the path right when there was a lull in the conversation to accentuate the silence between Kaoru and Kenshin, were both sheer perfection to read. You really know how to use your setting for dramatic effect. I loved it!

Nice pacing too, beginning with Kenshin's bombshell revelation to Kaoru and his explanation of why he kills. Her reaction was very believable by the way, and then going from the strained emotional to the concrete threat of an imminent surprise attack was a neat progression.

Misao's irreverent attitude towards Aoshi was a nice change from the usual hero-worship she lavished on him in the anime. Good job!
