2009-12-05 . chapter 21
Nice.

1) Madara needs to work on how he makes plans. That's a terrible way of going about it, especially when its so important.
Basic Rule of Xanatos Gambit'ing Ninja: Don't look for how a plan could work after you finish. Look for how it couldn't and move from there.

2) Nagato should eat a sandwich every once in a while. It might help with that issue he has. I hear eating is a really cool thing to do.

3) The battle between Minato and Hanzo was so awesome that after it happened, it erased itself out of existence, like a Higgs Boson.

4) What happens when Madara makes a clone then? Do they both become Madara><Madara until one of them implodes?

I was wondering how exactly you were going to go about torturing a guy who stabs himself for fun! As Minato pointed out, Hidan is way too good at pain and suffering to simply beat into submission.

If anything, you made him too wimpy considering he actually feels the pain he inflicts on others (by his own admission he's "sharing" his pain with the victims of his ritual) and enjoys it anyway. His reaction to Kotetsu and Izumo stabbing giant knives through his chest was basically "Ow... who are you guys?", and being blown to pieces just got him to curse Shikamaru out. I can't even fathom how insane you have to be to shrug off the pain of being dismembered and still alive.

That said, while you obviously had your own canon, would you be interested in hearing Hidan's actual story? If anything it makes him even scummier.

He was originally a normal shinobi for a village that is now defunct (Yugakure, the Hidden Hot Springs village). They couldn't keep up with other villages in times of peace and eventually gave up the shinobi way, but Hidan was too bloodthirsty to give up that lifestyle.

He learned about the Cult of Jashin (or they sought him out; its not too clear on that point), and he gladly joined. They then made him immortal themselves in an experiment. The thing is, his immortality is actually the result of a forbidden ritual they performed on him. Not all Jashin worshippers are immortal (which makes sense or they'd be overrunning most of the Narutoverse as any village seeking a massive advantage would convert to Jashin).

And he has to kill people to maintain the immortality (whether its just killing or using the ritual to kill is uncertain), which is why he probably did indeed eventually die in that pit (stupidest waste of an opportunity ever; why Shikamaru didn't bring his helpless, severed head back to Konoha for questioning on Akatsuki is an act of selfishness that hasn't been seen by a supposed "good guy" since).

So, he was actually an even bigger asshole than you portrayed him as!

There is only one word that can acurately describe htis story: MWAHAHAHAHA!

Yes, MWAHAHAHAHA! perfectly describes this story as it is pure evil in a humorsome, awesomesause sort of way. You are simply a genious... Then again, most mad men are- myself included.

You do remember where it was said when Naruto was learning to add to his elemental chakra to the rasengan that his dad (Minato) could not add elemental chakra to the rasengan himself. Only Naruto could, so Minato had no choice but to leave the rasengan incomplete.

You DO remember that? Right?

What a wonderful beating! -claps hands- And a really fitting punishment for Hidan. I would've thought of eternal torment for him but Minato was right, it would just lose it's meaning for Hidan.

Awesome chapter, it was weird not having any comedy though. XD

Deidara is from Iwa, so how will he react to facing Minato in the afterlife? I suggest curling up in the fetal position and sucking his thumb while wimpering.

Nice humiliating of Hidan, very nice! But what is Zabuza doing to Kakuzu?

2009-12-01 . chapter 2
Interestingly enough, despite your reminders that you wrote this 3 years ago, I actually found this chapter to be more enjoyable. I'm not particularly sure why, whether it was the writing style, humor, or the theme, but something just made it shine. I enjoyed how it gave Minato a deep character, and how it showed him as honourable, yet allowed his flaws as a person to shine through, and keep him from seeming like a surreal character, such as his willingness to use his power however he feels like, albeit to certain restraints. I also think that his manner of dealing with Gatou was a highlight, however, some parts are slightly repetitive, such as how you bring up some things as Minato first reads Gatou's file, and then bring them up in Minato's speech as well. I also think that Gatou was displayed brilliantly, if only for him to be killed moments after I started being interested in his demeanor. A sort of Dahlia Hawthorne, if you may.

I thought it was great, save for a few things. I think that the writing style was in fact quite flowing, as your changes were intended to do, and I also liked how even for someone with little to no knowledge of the Naruto Universe, I was eased into the story without you adding in complicating terms and names that would be unrecognizable (granted, Shinigami and Kyuubi had me but I got them by asking you). I also liked how the flashbacks didn't seem to interrupt the flow of the story at hand, but rather add to it, and give it a specific context that simply writing about what happened would not have brought. I also liked how it was possible to recognize a relative humanity in the characters, and how they seemed like people as opposed to hollow shells that are simply described. I think this was done somewhat by the humor, such as when you comment on how Minato is going to kick the note-maker's ass. However, one or two things were slightly off, like when Haku was introduced, and a few sentences went over describing how Minato had trouble distinguishing Haku's features, and gives a certain tone of mystery about him, then randomly it cuts in with Haku's actual name without giving a proper introduction to keep the consistency.

Haha. I love the crack about Jashin torturing himslef by reading through all of the twilight novels in one sitting. Lol. What makes me truly sad is that half of my gender (around my age) is obsessed with that stupid series. I am thinking of a little mangekiyo-twilight torture. Hm. Wow pretty much all I have done is rant about... yeah. I want to tell you how much I love your fic. and about how you bring a relativly unknown charater to life. I hope that one day I can be as good as you.
The Slingshot Effect
2009-11-28 . chapter 21
You. Are. A. Sadist.

Or, at the very least, extremely skilled at portraying sadism at its very best (worst?). Look, you've even reduced Zabuza to speechlessness! He's one of the infamous Demon Swordsmen of the Mist, and the only thing he has to say about Minny-kun's nefarious torture plans is "Oh"! Scandalous!

...I jest. I jest.

And I'm not all that surprised that Madara's carefully crafted plans tend to fall apart at the most inopportune moments. If anything, I say that he deserves it completely, the withered old asshat. Perhaps he's into incest, too--after all, "family he loved ever so much" smacks of slightly incestuous intentions...

...no, Madara, sir, I won't say that again, sir. I'm sorry, sir.

Anyway, on to Hidan.

He probably doesn't just have ten screws loose. He probably hasn't had ANY screws at all! Hidan is the epitome of everything that drives a man to insane, bloody murder, so there is no way in hell he's got any semblance of what we call "sanity". Absolutely no bloody way.

He's also a diehard hypocrite, what with his profanity-laden tongue and his demands for respect towards his religion. Oh, gee, Hidan, maybe the reason why people don't take you seriously is because you don't practice what you preach! I'd tell you to burn in the deepest and hottest pits of hell, but I shan't for fear that you might actually enjoy it. You've effectively ruled out every possible form of gratuitous and ruthless torture, Hidan, you bastard.

(I won't be too surprised if Madara had excelled in his public speaking classes. He seems to be quite the charmer when he wants.)

And of course, no chapter of yours would be worth its salt without the honorary mention of the sexual tension between Nagato and Konan! I don't know where you find your inspiration for the pairing's scenes. They're just too jaw-droppingly funny, not to mention shockingly out of place amidst all the bloody torture and Shinigami-being-a-total-evil-mastermind-ness and Madara-being-a-douchebag-as-always-ness.

And Kushina, to answer your question: no, it's not really worth it to be a nice human being for once. But only if you're nice to people like Nick, because that way you HAVE to be nice to them after you make 'em tear up like Nick did. Too bad.

Alas, a pity that Sasuke didn't know about the secret Stick Ceremony. Although he's now the character that we all love so dearly, so I suppose it's not necessary after all--

...I can't do this. Excuse me while I run off to laugh like a maniac again...

And yes, Yondy IS the man. You just can't argue with that. (And damn it all, Chris, write the Epic Battle Between Minato and Hanzo! Gah! Stupid teasers!)

-The Slingshot Effect

P.S. Yes, Madara, you. Are. Batshit. Crazy. Not to mention obsessed with your dear family.
The Slingshot Effect
2009-11-28 . chapter 19
Before I continue, that was not enough Sasuke bashing...for me, anyway. It was a mere taster, damn it, and now I can't wait for more anti-Sasuke action. (Although I have to admit, I'm torn between chastising you for being a sick, sick bastard and laughing Sasuke to oblivion. Needless to say, I doubt I'll be forgetting about Sasuke's...dog-like behavior any time soon. Now we know from whence 75 percent of his issues hail.)

Also, you should feel very proud of yourself. I'm still debating whether Sasuke was in Stage 4 sleep (easier to wake up, but no nightmares) or REM sleep (nightmares, but virtually impossible to wake up). You actually gave me a reason to really use what I learned about states of consciousness in AP Psychology, so kudos to you.

Anyway, hilarious chapter as always--too many favorite moments to single out, methinks. I nearly fell out of my seat from laughter, and that was just from the beginning!

'Tis a pity Madara had to disregard the TRW lesson, but...WTF? He had a LOVER? Blackmail wasn't involved, was it? Or worse, coercion? Or perhaps the worst possibility of them all, she actually fell for his charms, whatever they may be. Oh god. I'll stop there before I go on an all-out spaz attack.

Book club, eh? And we can see how well that turned out. Even the Doosh--I mean, SASUKE has joined. I guess their standards are especially low, though. Especially if they're going to let a dog in. Hmph.

As for Jashin's true form, that was one of the funniest things you've ever included in "Yellow Flash". Most people (myself included) would imagine Jashin to be some horrific, monstrous being, but your image of him as an ordinary businessman with a particularly high tolerance for torture (cough, TWILIGHT, hackhackhack) is...astounding, to say the least. Certainly caught me off guard, though Minato's little glasses act was a nice touch. (I swear he's been itching to do that.)

Oh, yes, and Itachi randomly handing out Pocky? Good gods, Chris, you have him down to a tee! Monthly supply! "Quite delicious"! I'd say more, but that scene was so awesome, it brought me down to my knees. I will now proceed to the next part so I don't ruin the awesomeness of Itachi's obsessions with dead bodies and Pocky (and Pain/Nagato's apparent lust for Konan).

Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke. Tsk tsk, young man. I had expected you to invent a much more creative and violent way to kill Itachi, not this...stabbing nonsense. This is why you deserved to be raped by Orochimaru in a dream! Snicker, "manly powers". Talk about roMANce. I bet he screams like a little girl! Oh god, what a perfect ending to the chapter--

...I'm sorry, I can't get over the dreaded Twilight reference. Now excuse me while I run off to laugh like a crazed inmate.
