JesseMac Girl the Flinda Fr...

abuseBecause this story is so amazing, I forgive you for leaving Glindero in the dust.

SEND THIS TO A PUBLISHER! And I have a great idea for the cover if this is a book:
The top third will be sparkly blackness. With actual sparkles, of course. Then the middle third will be white and will say 'Black as Midnight,' in Courier New font, black lettering. The 'Sweet as Sin' will be in Arial Narrow. Then your name will be in courier again.

The bottom third will be an image of silky black hair, just hair, not a person. I will review again when I have an idea for the back.

abuseI think this is good enough to be a real book.

Send this to a publishing company, I'm serious.

Well, maybe write a little more and then send it in. Give me a call whenevs the cover art needs to be designed, I'm quite good with swill like that.

Seriously, do.

abuseYou have excellent characterization, there are parts of this that hark incredibly well to what they become in bookverse, Nessa not noticing if you didn't directly tell her, for one, not the only one. I'm kind of wondering where Galoony came from, it's an interesting image. Great job.

abuseThis was, quite simply, wonderful. You seemed to capture the cynical style of Gregory Mcguire and transform his book into the musical. It does seem as though your characters came out of the novel and into the play. I rather admire you for it, to be frank.

I found it hard to keep characters from Wicked in character. Good job on that.

abusebrilliant, brilliant, brilliant, and absolutely wonderful. loved all your little touches, the baba yaga and pimpernel bits (love the scarlet pimpernel. we seek him here, we seek him there ;)
Love your Fiyero. like how your elphaba is not so totally good. great blend of the musical-book. you bought into his feelings for both women- it works.
your last chapter was really, exceptional.
and your ending? fantastic.
i really enjoyed reading this, thanks.

abuseI gave myself a good night's sleep to compose myself before leaving this review, for if I'd attempted to write one last night at 3 AM when I finished, it would have been a long, incoherent babble reminiscent of a drunken G(a)linda. Even now, I'm next to positive it won't encompass everything I want to express, but here we go:

Wow.

Just wow.

Maguire could have taken notes from you, quite seriously. You gave life and *gasp!* personality to one of Wicked's most underrated characters. I have never seen anything close to this brilliant portrayal of our favorite Winkie prince, and I doubt I ever will again (unless you decide to write another Fiyero-centered story, hint hint; nudge nudge). His relationships with classmates, friends, professors, and Animals; his private musings; his slowly-budding relationship with Elphaba, and his deteriorating crush on Galinda... gah, EVERYTHING you incorporated into this story was spot-on and had me either grinning insanely or nodding in agreement. I (literally) applauded one line in particular, but I can't pinpoint it for the life of me.

I started reading this story back when it was a one-shot, I believe, and then it was recommended to me just recently by an online friend. My eyes were red from lack of blinking, and it occurred to me that I had skipped two meals, by the time I finished. Slow reader, I guess, but I had to absorb it all! Eat? Peh. Sleep? Peh. Breathe? ... well, I did that. But only because if I didn't, I would have died before finishing this masterpiece.

And just for the record, I noted and appreciated the oh-so-subtle references to Norbert Leo Butz and Gregory Maguire in the naming of ** buildings. Very clever. ;) Oh, and Erik (Phantom) in the floating gypsy circus! I'm sure there were other references that I completely breezed over, but I was proud of myself for catching those, haha.

I could probably rant lovingly about this story for a good two hours, but I'm sure there's some sort of limit on how much text this Oz-forsaken site allows us to put in reviews, so I'll wrap up... ish.

Favorite scenes:

1. Galinda sobbing onto Elphie's bed while Fiyero sat outside in the snow. That image stuck with me. And I'm with Kennedy Leigh Morgan; there really aren't enough fics between Defying Gravity and Thank Goodness. This is the first I've seen.

2. Any and all of the letters between the characters. So much insight was contained in those snippets of conversation! And I went into a fit of giggles at the whole "Ozmopolitan" magazine thing-- Fiyero Oberon's "Every Little Trait" is one of my favorite fics on this site, aside from yours. Huzzah!

3. Fiyero calling Elphie out on her clothes in the "Galindafied" scene. Metro, indeed! I'd never thought of it, but it makes perfect sense. :)

4. The rooftop with Galinda. So sweet. And you did such a marvelous job; you tamed the fangs of even the most vicious Fiyeraba fans. *points to your reviews for that chapter* Bravisima indeed.

5. FLYING! I could actually feel the exhilaration just reading it. And the line about him screaming out of frustration, of course, not FEAR: A-men. Such a man thing. *rolls eyes and grins*

I could go on forever listing these scenes, and get to every one eventually, but I'll refrain. Those are my top 5, anyway.

I usually like to leave constructive criticism for every story. For this one... I'm drawing a big, long, Liir-white blank.

Ehrm. Uhh. OH! Got one! You spelled "Arjiki" wrong a few times. But it's a cute little quirk that made me love this story all the more, so dammit, I really don't care. But that's my constructive criticism, lame as it was. lol.

You are brilliant; this STORY is brilliant. Beyond words, though for the record, I tried. If I beg and plead and give you a plateful of green-frosted witch Halloween cookies left over from last night, will you pretty please write more Wicked fics? I think I'd keel over of a heart attack, and then demand that someone bring my laptop to my hospital bed so I could read. Yeah, you're that good.

Your Adoring Fan, reader, reviewer, etc.,
Danielle
