Ah, a little preview! Very clever.
Ok. Whew! I found this story kind of randomly, because I wanted to read something shortish that was complete, and, you know, the sorting functions on FFN are really fantastic. I liked the summary (especially the ambiguous friendship/slash bit, that was smart) and I skimmed the first part and saw that you had good voice, so I stuck around, and here I am. :) I know that review alerts aren't really working right now, but I do hope you enjoy these reviews once you get them!

Soo, the story. It was a wicked fun read, a great ride - as you can probably tell by my short, reactionary reviews.. I just wanted to finish! There are times, though, that it reads a bit like a first draft. Glossing over moments like when Ace escaped his cell, and what Race said to Ace in HIS (Race's) cell.. that's not fair!

Like many fics (including, um, a lot of mine) it gets a bit melodramatic sometimes - like, Spot suddenly getting so, SO angry, angry enough to beat up his ex-bff and kick Red out, etc. There is some explanation for this, but not enough. I get that it's a combination of him harboring all this hurt for Race leaving without telling him, and then Race being all snappy and mean to his face, but his reaction still seems extreme. Is it because Spot's personality is kind of on a knife's edge, subject to tipping with the least bit of provocation? We're not quite sure, because we're just kind of thrown into the action (which isn't a bad thing! I love the beginning of the story).

Anyway, I don't have any major complaints with the story, or else I wouldn't have finished it! I think you did a good job and I still have to decide if I'm going to let myself read "time" - after all, the characters are left in such an idyllic setting, here, and I kind of like it that way! Siigh. So it goes.

All in all, great work. :)

aahaha. oh dear. i can so just picture all the newsies like ".." as they stand watching this. thaat's a bit awkward. but very sweet. :)

aahaha, for all the making this one the friendship ending - the "yes, race. a million times yes." sounded so much like answering a wedding proposal that i almost started laughing!

mm, i really like the last few lines, Race (and Spot!) leaving the watch on the table and all, very.. well, not just symbolic, but I'm having trouble with words lately. i'm wicked curious about these two epilogues. are they like alternate endings? well, only one way to find out.

HA. that little thought almost made up for the fact that you cheated with getting Ace out of the cell, you scoundrel! spot DOES have quite the dramatic flair, doesn't he? explosions and everything. and i still want to know what happened to Red's hair. minor details, that.

how did red get black hair?? ah, doesn't much matter.. i hope he can knock some sense into our dear conlon, jeez. and ace, well, he has me intrigued. there's gotta be a way out of the cell, after all..

er. is spot on drugs?

this is trouble. again, i don't have much to say because i just want to keep reading! but race is, like, delirious, ace has a broken arm, spot is off his rocker, bronx is currently leaderless, and who knows what red thinks he's going to do to fix everything. YIKES.

well. everything's going to hell. that's just fantastic. and now i need to click to the next chapter and see who just found ace and race.

spot's cracked. he's loony. i do like ace - and docks, too, actually. i'm not sure what manhattan will be able to do about all this, but i hope they'll try!

however, in other news? spot is NUTS.

it's me? it's WHO? well, anyway.. love the dynamic between race and spot, and love the dynamic between Spot and Red.. verry interesting.. i should probably read "for brooklyn," eh? gah, Spot is just falling apart.. yikes.

er. yeahh.. spot's not creepy at all.. poor mush! and where's Race?? onwaard --

guhh intense! i don't know who to feel worse for, spot or race. i mean, ya, race is the one that got beat up and kicked out by his former best friend, but spot.. well, spot beat race up and kicked him out! i have a feeling that is NOT going to help his empty feeling. bah.

yess, i love when the narration switches between characters. and now spot and race interaction, faantastic, i would leave a longer review but i just want to keep reading!!
