abuseThis is truly beautiful, and it helps you to understand better the relationship that Hiko has with Kenshin. I especially loved how the story ended. This is a wonderful story.

abuseAnother powerful POV fic. I'd love it if you wrote another chapter to this, with Hiko's POV on him NOT dying :P

abuseA foray into Hiko's mind is always a very interesting, and very scary, thing. I loved the rawness in this, because you can tell that Kenshin does mean the world to him, even though Hiko likes to talk tough and pretend that he doesn't care. The scene you wrote about has always been one of my favorites, and I loved reading Hiko's account of it in this story.

Thanks for sharing!

abuseAwesome. Absolutely awesome.

Your story 'Confessions of a Master Swordsman' is my favorite Rurouni Kenshin story to date. Hiko is one of my two favorite characters (the other being Misao) and you capture him perfectly, in my opinion. Yes, he's often crude, and goodness knows, he likes to annoy the heck out of Kenshin. I suppose it's a perk of being the master. But as Okina said, he's a truly great man. You don't get to be the 13th master of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu without some real depth, methinks.
I was ecstatic when I looked and found you'd written a new story about Hiko and his baka deshi. And you'd written it well, about one of my favorite scenes.

"A father should never have to bury his son. But a swordsmaster must take responsibility for the actions of his pupil. You think you're the only one who's carried the burden of those stolen lives?"

A father should never have to bury his son. That's a beautiful line, and well-used. I never doubted he could do it--that he could kill Kenshin if need be--but Hiko's got a softer side deep down (way deep down ^_~) and killing Kenshin would would that soft side deeply, I think.

"I'm talking fast now. I know I don't have much time. You'd better be listening, dammit."

I had to laugh here. It was quite dramatic, "I don't have much time", and then a very Hiko-esque, "You'd better be listening, dammit." Brilliant ^_^

And the last line made me cry. The whole fic I was enjoying looking at the scene through Hiko's eyes, but that last line really did it.

Thank you for writing another awesome story^^ You've made my night.

abuseSuch a touching piece on the Hiko-Kenshin relationship. The last sentence in particular is so very touching. You have analyzed Hiko's character so well, and the much used "baka" throughout the whole piece reflects what you've mentioned at first...that the meeting with Kenshin has "distilled" Hiko's thoughts down to that particular word.

Thanks for sharing!

abuseHi

Wow... Wat an awesome read!!

Around halfway down i was already in Hiko's head playing out every word, the resonance in my head stunning...

This is prolly the best exploration of the Ruroken central idealism ever... I absolutely love this.

The characters(especially Hiko) couldn't have been done better... the prose was simple, the repetitions well timed. The environ was kept at bare minimum which accented the concentrated thought.

The single complaint is that the scene was visually slightly lacking around 2 points... ^-^

The ending and just be4 it was very moving... "And as the darkness takes me I smile truly".. eases the throbbing... the ending is truly the ending... we all know wat has happened but u can't help but feel concerned.

Powerful and absolutely perfect piece...

abuseExceptional writing. Absolutely beautiful. You articulated not only what everyone remembers from the scenes in the RK anime, but also Hiko's inner dialogue. His wisdom, compassion, frustration with his apprentice's idiotic behavior, and the way he had to steel himself to make the toughest decision of his life, all those things combined to paint a picture of a complex and unique man. It brought out a side of him incomprehensible to those who usually classify him as an arrogant jerk.

After reading your story I felt that I came to understand the character a lot better, and his Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu philosophy. That one line: "A father should never have to bury his son" so clearly illustrates the disappointment and grief Hiko felt when Kenshin left to risk his life in the service of a cause Hiko thought unworthy, and his satisfaction that Kenshin finally 'got it' so Hiko could die without regrets.

I loved this. It's going on my favorites list right now. Thank you so much for writing it!
