estelle.evenstar72 6/16/08 . chapter 1haha touching and sweet... the dream was incredibly funny...maybe you should write comedy? lol. awesome stuff..wish i had something more constructive to say :P |
faceted-mind 9/20/06 . chapter 1You missed out on a fantastic potential joke at the end of this fic! Alexander sends for Hephaestion, or he returns from his mission... only to reveal he has a fever, or lice, or dysentry, or something along those lines. Suspision erupts, and poor Hephaestion is too ill to deny anything. Hehe... Regardless. :D |
cip 9/13/06 . chapter 1congrats on knowing all the Gods and using them correctly, not many people can do that! |
queen-isabell 5/11/06 . chapter 1I love this story the most out of all of your Alexander fics but they're all great! I love the humor and the human side of Alexander you present. Please continue writing! |
Joyeee 3/15/06 . chapter 1Half the army - including Craterus - in love with Hephaestion! I love this idea! You make me laugh out loud (and not with frazzled/morose half-insanity) even in the throes of final exams! (More studying wouldn't have helped on the one I just took, so there!) And how close to the truth it is, at least for the pages - I adore them, all of them, and not just because they're "all a little in love with Hephaestion." (I'm a broken record in regard to your fics, d'oh!) As Hylas senses, these pages are truly reliable, not just the polite-but-not-quite-trustworthy pretty faces of Alexander's pages. I like it even more that they started off resenting im, wanting more exciting or widely accepted officers! Capable boys like them wouldn't easily tolerate serving anyone who really was what some people said Hephaestion was. But back to the dream - another brilliant, hilarious dream sequence (your Morpheus sure has his sense of humor with both of them!) this time saying so much about Alexander, his incredible possessiveness when it comes to Hephaestion's love, and his buildup of insecurities. (But it just makes him more loveable, heheh.) But his authority also asserts itself, doesn't it - he can snap right back to being king. Breaking fingers? Owie. Hephaestion must be very tired of people trying to drive them apart over those years - as if Alexander's own insecurities don't do enough! (And more of the slightly scary Hephaestion, woohoo!) You convey his true feelings about the whole situation so well - being worried the first night he's away from Alexander (and Admetus explaining that he's going to be irritable the first few days, regardless), the "logistics" of sex with anyone else making him shudder, and we indirectly see Amyntor again, yay! How cute, little Hephaestion wanting to box the other boys' ears to remind them just whose father Amyntor was! (A and H really are two sides of a coin in some respects!) And Hephaestion's really learned from his father, however unconscious it was - now it's his pages who "worship him ardently!" As much as I love the dream sequence (and the rest!), I think my favorite scene is Alexander and Hephaestion talking out the situation, finally trying to get to the bottom of things. In fact that's probably true for everything I've read from you so far, your dialogue for them always seems just right, reflecting the complexity of their relationship - they're willing to share (almost) all truths with each other and yet have difficulty reaching mutual understanding on certain things, they confuse each other and sometimes hurt each other's feelings even though they only ever mean the best. By the by, this is an absolutely magnetic, smoking! description: "the look he would give Alexander even as he let him claim his body, half playful, half predatory, so that Alexander hardly knew who was claiming who." Whew! |

Elithraniel 3/4/06 . chapter 1Heheh! I absolutely LOVED this story! It was charming and sexy and humorous all at once. Well done, well done. -Elithraniel |
Fanfic Fish 3/3/06 . chapter 1Oh I absolutely adored this story! The irony made me smile, it was amazing. Hylas's love sick puppy ways made me giggle . . . it was great. And he's a shadow of Alexander, I loved that. Blond locks and a never wavering adoration for Hephaistion, it all just fits so well. I especially loved Alexander's nightmare with how Hylas and Hephaistion had forgotten about the great king. But alas Hephaistion knows how to make all those worries go away and he did! -blushes- There wouldn't be a sequal coming after this would there? I think it would be interesting to see what's going on between Hephaistion and Hylas . . . that would be great too. Loved it, and I can't wait to see more amazing stories coming from you! _ -Fanfic Fish- |
jros1746 3/3/06 . chapter 1Another excellent story told with humour but showing real insight into the characters. Keep the stories coming! |
Trust No One 3/2/06 . chapter 1How delightful! This story had me squealing with laughter at some points (Hephaistion saying that Alexander was getting too fat? and all this in Alexander's dream) and yet I could not help but find it bittersweet. It's probably very close to the truth as well, to how delicate Hephaistion's position must have been. I loved to see the pages as well again. Please please you must write a story and give Hephaistion another lover/mistress, something there, just to prove that he was only human after all. |
CoralDawn 3/1/06 . chapter 1Sqeals with delight... it's so great to see Hylas again! Admetus too! Finally the backstory of "cuddling with Hephaistion" mentioned in "The Ivory Eros" comes to light! I love the close-knit group of Hephaistion's pages. You have outdone yourself, Moon! This is a wonderful story for so many, many, many different reasons (hmm... I sound like a broken record with respect to your stories). Many, many layers! First, and most obvious, there is the delightful humor and lightness that permeate all your stories - they somehow make the stories go down like a glass of good wine! But then there are so many mature themes here as well. Alexander's needs and insecurities where Hephaistion is concerned - I think this story makes us understand very well why it was that he loved Hephaistion like he loved no one else, his one emotional refuge that he so possessively guarded. It's interesting that he understands Hephaistion's needs may be different from his own, and tries to do something about it. Hephaistion also recognizes his own needs and knows that there are some things which Alexander can't satisfy. I feel that they are perhaps slowly moving to a phase in their lives where they start having other sexual partners (Roxanne, Bagoas, pages, harem for A. and who knows who for H.!) but continue to be dependent on each other for love. I thought it rather revealing of their characters that to Alexander, a 13-year-old Hylas would be a perfect "eromenos" for Hephaistion whereas H. prefers strong, confident young men! I also like the small warts on A. and H. instead of getting angelic beings: H. being short with Hylas; A. being commanding in a flash, and so on. Lastly, I found little Hylas' emotions also quite telling in the last section. He is smitten with Hephaistion, but at 13, doesn't exactly know what he really wants. He is pretty aggressive about getting into H.'s bed, but is then relieved when H. tells him to go to sleep. Very believable about boys that age. I could write more, but this is already too long. Just one more thing - Alexander's dream made me imagine that Morpheus was having a little laugh somewhere on Mt. Olympus while Aphrodite sniffed in disapproval! |
MLygia 3/1/06 . chapter 1What a delicious history! In spite of the great sense of humour that permeates the whole narrative, more complex themes as the way as Alex tries to reconcile conflicting feelings as the jealousy, possession, and the insecurity are very evident. Heph too. In spite of his love for Ale he doesn't stop having sexual needs that cannot be pleased. The final paragraph is perfect. It gets to translate the whole game of emotions that is present in your fic. Thanks for writing. |
