I did enough "breath-hitching" there for Hikaru AND everyone else.

Your stuff is incredibly creative, a guaranteed good story. I was starting to see this one play out in movie format, with very honest narration coming from Hikaru and the italicized one-sentence scenes.

My only suggestion would be to have included some indication of their ages earlier on. My guesses kept oscillating between seventeen and forty-seven. But perhaps that's just my obtuseness at work.

This has potential! Hikaru can't leave? Are you saying he'll be to Tsutsui's daughter like Sai was to him? If she lets Hikaru play all the games, sooner or later Akira will recognize it. Or was it meant to be a oneshot? It was very good either way!

Oh yeah! I think I saw this before on a journal! I don't remember if I commented, though. But I have to say that I really enjoyed this one-shot! It was very good! :D Thank goodness, there's no slash or anything weird popping up in the middle of this. You demonstrate a great sense of how the characters are really like.
