The Readers Muse
2009-10-10 . chapter 7
I just wanted to let you know this was a very interesting, in depth, and well written story! Likely one of the best long-lasting Kavanagh stories I have even had the pleasure of reading. You richly inlaid a full and interesting back story and fleshed out the character in a VERY on-character (from what we can glean) account, meshing the development with aspects of his character we are both familiar with, and those that we are not, but can certainly see.

What I think I liked most however was your portrayal of Kavanagh, I thought it was very fitting the way you portrayed you!

And finally, all power to the Kavanagh writer in you! We need more stories like this, on him out there. Believe me, being a author of one Kavanagh story myself, I know that Kav needs the love! :D

Honestly I've never really liked Kavanagh but looking back, his attitude during the jumper incident was just like McKay's when he was supposed to be helping save T'eal'c (at least i think that was the episode) and Jack ended up shipping him off. I like the fact that although weir only got a slap on the wrist, you showed that not every one on Atlantis sided with her and that even Jack was bothered by it. There were many decisions on atlantis that actually got me irritated enough to start watching it sparsely. Like when they changed the wraith into humans not once but twice.

Anyway awesome story!

Interesting prespectives. I happen to like fanfics portraying characters realistically.
Very good.

Maybe you could make a fanfic with the storyline from a different POV like Dr Beckett's or Dr Zelenka's...

As you know, I follows this story on Livejournal, but I thought I should voice my appreciation here as well.

Love the fact how Zelenka stood up to the PTB, because of his previous experiences behind the Iron Curtain. As one who grew up under the same circumstances, I can understand his motivation very well.

And isn't it a sad thing that I found Sheppard's irresponsible comment so very in-character?

Nice to see you have updated. The main thing on SGA is that we never see any consequenses or reprecussions to any of the decisons Weir and the team make. Everything just falls into place. I love how you are showing the effects of these decisions and their consequences. Weir is pretty much now in the position that she put Kavanaugh in and its not very nice. She had flimsy evidence at best but yet she went ahead with the order to torture him. Why?? With the same evidence would she have ordered anyone else torturnd. The overall theme here not just from Weir but from John and Rodney is that its ok to torture him because he was a jerk - they didnt like him - he rocked the boat. Radek is a voice of reason amongst prejudices and prejudgement and I am disappointed that Rodney and John still continue to back Weir. I can understand John to a point because he is a soldier but again I just cant see him going along with it now when he is aware that Kavanaguh was innocent all along and that other than finding the man an annoying jerk ther wasn't sufficient evidence or justifcation in doing what they did.

Oh very nice you muse abuser, you... ;)

I like how you made Kavanaugh concerned not just about bringing Weir to justice, but about the safety of the expedition as well. I also like the backstory- it seems to fit very well with the character.

Now, quick! Before the muse recovering from it's beating! Write! Write! Write!

So Kavanaugh is neurotic and isolated, although not necessarily more than Dr. Weir. I agree that Weir has scapegoated him since "38 hours". Her little speech about being the defacto "governor of a colony" with dictatorial powers was quite illuminating.

Nice to see Kavanaghs point of view. I could never understand why Weir treated him so badly. The writers didn't do a very good job of making him out to be the bad guy so Weirs treatment of him made her look petty. He has every reason to be angry at the way she ordered him to be tortured, and I was disgusted by how the whole thing was conveniently forgotten about on the show. She abused her power and unfortuntatly we have seen that she gets away with this too many times. Instead of getting reprimanded she just gets a pat on the back. Its also not very nice to see the writers condoning this type of behaviour. If they want to convince us that Kavanagh is capable of destroying Atantis then at least give us a decent backstory to back up that assumption, but not just because he disagrees with her and acts nerdy. I hope you have Weir suffer some sort of consequences as we will never see it on the show, and she will continue to get away with whatever she likes, and god forbid the writers will never write anyone disagreeing with her - if they do they may be the next ones to get tortured.!!

This is a good story. I kinda have a bit of sympathy for Dr. Kavanaugh. Still, this thing between him and Dr. Weir seems to be a long-running kids fight with neither side big enough to end it. Still, it's a great story.

Hey!
I'm really happy to see that someone else cares for Kav after the episode Critical Mass!
I really like this character, and I think your are right: he shouldn't just be a jerk for no reason. So give him some background! I also find that he is quite right about Weir: she doesn't like him because, unlike the others, he dares to say directly when he's not the same opinion. And of both, he's the one caring for the entire city, not her!
Write as many chapters as you want, the most will be the best, in my opinion!

I like the way you've portrayed Kavanaugh. He's acted like a jerk, but partly because he has reason to.

Well, they're called plotBUNNIES for a reason...
And, yeah, I think he probably has had to put up with a lot of crap. People with unpopular view points normally do.
