No, I don't think you ruined the song at all. The liberties you took in translating it are what you would expect every translator to do. As you said, the exact literal translation sounds weird, and you'd be considered to be a pretty bad translator if you tried to do a completely literal translation. I think you did pretty well, and captured the meaning of the Chinese too (at least in the 3 lines that you provided the Chinese for - I don't know the original song).

My childhood friend died about month ago from leukemia relapse, so subject is familiar to me, as much I hate it. In a way.

Gosh, I read this months ago. But I was going through stories, and this one definitely deserves another review.

It was so utterly beautiful. It made me give a little sad smile when I read that Ren stopped listening, died. Even if you didn't say it out loud. (It's one of those moments that might make you blink back a little bit of water, really.)

I can imagine Hao as a pianist, somehow. You make it work quite well.

The way you ended it... "Maybe there is such a thing as "happily ever after."" I loved it. Fantastic job and a definite Haoren favorite.

It is sad that Ren died, but I am happy that he died peacefully. I wish I could listen to the song mentioned in this story... Thank you for writing this =3
