Asuka's spoken Japanese seems to be perfectly fluent, from what I'm told by my friends. Don't ask me why-I've always figured that her mother (and later guardians) spoke it to her from her infancy onward. (I think there's some evidence that she's less than fully literate in Japanese, which isn't uncommon for people who grow up speaking one language but are educated in another.)

Still, it's possible that there would be obscenities and such that she wouldn't know. (On the other hand, she might have gone out of her way to learn them-there's something uniquely satisfying about cursing in an ancestral language.)

Actually "Asoko" literally means "Over there". Koko is "here", soko is "there", but the "A" implies further than soko. In jap there are three concepts of vincinity.

You might use koko for where you are, soko for where the person near you is, but asoko for the tree over there. There is also a concept of very far away, but it's a bit different.
